CHURROS

by Bonnie E. » Sat May 02, 2009 10:25 am

Does anyone know where I can buy premade churros? My lovely daughter volunteered to bring some to her class on Wednesday. Need about 30 or so. I found a pretty simple recipe but it says best consumed within a few hours and I am NOT geting up at 4 a.m. to make them. SO I am looking for something prepackaged or frozen. World Market does not have them. Thanks for your help. Bonnie

Yes, Mexican. I agree fresh is best, but again, I am too lazy to rise and shine at 4 a.m.

I haven't been there in ages, but I remember that SAM'S used to sell Churros in their "snack bar" (pizza, ice cream, etc.) near the checkouts. Never tried them, so can't verify if they were good or not. Or if they still sell them. Might be worth a phone call to confirm. You could check with Costco too.

Lois

P.S.: According to postings found on the web, Sams (and maybe Costco too) sell FROZEN churros, ready to be heated and served.

Dan,

Thanks very much for helping me out. You were way too generous. The churros were a big hit with the 6th graders!

Thanks,

Bonnie

Okay, Now we need to know what Dan did to make him so sweet.

I would much rather give kuddos to a sweet local chef than send folks to Costco!

Well, no one at Costco would answer the phone. Someone told me you could buy them in their "food court" area which meant they would not be warm the next morning.

SO, I asked LHB and Dan came to my rescue providing churros for me to bake at home.

Norway is the the next country and I FORBADE my daughter to volunteer to bring food!

Again, thanks Dan very kind of you.

Bonnie, I can share my recipe for Norwegian meatballs with you. They are not difficult to make and you could make them way ahead and freeze them. I also have several Norwegian cookbooks that you are more than welcome to borrow.

How many kiddos are in your daughters class? I may have enough lefse in my freezer. (Lefse is a soft bread, think flour tortilla, made from mashed/riced potates.) Lefse is typically eating with butter and sugar.

I've never met a kid who didn't like both the meatballs and the lefse.

Gayle, That is so sweet of you! I tell you, you people are some of the kindest, most generous folks I've had the pleasure of "knowing". I would love the recipe for the meatballs just so I can try them.

My daughter did tell her group "My mom said I can't volunteer to bring food this time" so I think we are okay for now. (At least I know she's listening to me). I love that she is an involved kid, just wish she'd check with me BEFORE she volunteers for stuff. Thanks again.
