I will have some for sale at Bardstown rd farmers market this weekend 8 to 12 Saturday morning. Were a family run greenhouse that grows everything ourselves here. Shop local, get plants grown in Kentucky. Let me know if you need a certain variety and I will make sure they are there.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

John,

Are you going to be at Pheonix Hill's farmers market on the 12th?

If so, I need 4 tomato plants (2 med/lg acidic, 1 sweet and a cherry), 3 basil, maybe some parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.

I'll vouch for the quality of John's plants- I bought a number of them last year and they were top-notch! And his heirloom tomatoes are fantastic when they are in later in the season.

(And no, this is not a paid announcement nor am I a relative   - I just really like the quality of John and Ann's products.)

Thanks Deb, I really appreciate the kind words. It gets harder every year to compete with all the big box stores selling everything as a loss leader. We just do our best to give people the most for their money...a quality plant grown in a responsible manner that will preform great here in our region. Being a small family operation its also easy for us to keep our money moving locally by doing all our business for supplies and what not local. Even the fertilizer we use is made in Kentucky. And as you know, you are on the top of the list when the first picking of tomatoes comes in....gotta have somebody to do quality control.

John,

I volunteer to do as much quality testing as you need.. :D Love your tomatoes!

Do you know when BearGrass market is opening? I assume you guys are going to be there again this year - I want to get some more plants, but Bardstown is a little far for me ( now that Norton Commons has grown).

Thanks!

For high quality healthy plants (not just vegetables) and an insane variety you can't beat Grantine Nursery. (Indiana)

Here's an offbeat suggestion, if it's the right neighborhood for you. Buy your tomatoes tomorrow from the youth at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane (between Westport Road and Massey). I got some Beefsteaks and Mortgage Lifters there last week, and they looked very good. They have a lot of heirlooms, good size (maybe 18 inches) and were selling them for $2.50 last week. On the grass circle on the Hubbards Lane side of the church, probably around 9 a.m. and again a little after 11 a.m.

* Tomato Plants for sale after 8:00 and 10:00 services! Under the guidance of parent/gardener Franklin Jelsma, our 1st through 5th graders have had a seven week gardening project, from planting seeds to separating. The children have been up to their elbows in dirt and loving every minute! The proceeds, the children decided, will go to the Rongo Orphans and the Humane Society. Buy your plants today!

May 16, I believe. It's posted in a thread on the forum somewhere. I can't wait! We're halfway between Bardstown and Beargrass and I love 'em both, but I've reached the point where I like Beargrass better.

I agree with Robin. I have come to prefer Beargrass over Bardstown, but I did read somewhere that dogs are no longer welcome at Bardstown, so that may ease the congestion.
