Goat meat

by Carla G » Fri Sep 14, 2018 10:37 am

So I’m going to dine in one of our many Indian restaurants and I want to try goat having never eaten it. I don’t care for lamb but others have said goat is much better. Ok. After doing s small amount of research on goat meat I see that it’s lower in calories, fat and saturated fat than lamb, beef, pork, turkey or chicken. Is this going to be the next big thing? Does anyone know where goat meat is sourced for Louisville?

I know a lot of the local taquerias get it from local Mexican-American farmers. It's also available at halal meat stores. South End Valu carries it (I think) so that might be the easy place to start. Or try the little Anar Food Mart in the same short strip center as La Rosita taqueria on Westport near Plantation.

I met this guy last year.

David Levine
Bellboy Import Corp
502-819-5405

He supplies most of the Halal shops in town.

We went to Shalimar for dinner. I tried the goat curry. I don’t like lamb at all , it tastes musty or something. Still, a friend assured me that goat was very different. It was. I loved it! In fact I like it better than beef, pork or chicken. I was quite bony but very succulent and lent itself well to the curry. Guess I’m going to look for an IP recipe for it.

Glad you had a good experience, Carla. I love curried goat. I even had an experience as a youngster grilling a whole goat over an open fire. Fraternity thing. Don’t ask.

Just ran across this. I have to say, if you’ve never tried goat you might want to give it a go. I really don’t like lamb but found goat meat to be delicious!
