Pizza Dough

by Leann C » Fri Feb 19, 2010 4:40 pm

I'm have a "make your own" pizza party at the house tonight. Does anyone know of a place in the area where I could buy pre-made pizza dough? The kind that comes in a bag & you simply cut off a piece and roll it out. I only need enough to make 6 or 7 medium pizzas. However, I wouldn't mind buying more if it will keep in the fridge or freezer. It would be nice to have it on-hand.

I believe Lotsa Pasta does, but it might be frozen.

I got a LotsaPasta ball in the freezer and just went and checked the label. States, thaw in fridge 24 hours or at room temp 4 hours and another option to double bag and drop in hot tap water for 45 min.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Our Wal-mart used to carry it, but it stopped. You might call the local one there and ask for the deli.

Yep, in addition to being pretty cheap and easy, its also very good. After checking the thawing time for this thread yesterday, I decided to leave that ball in the fridge for tonight. We always cut the ball in half and roll out two really thin crusts. For tonight Im thinking of topping it with some New Orleans jarred olive salad(muffeleta style pizza?).

Leann,
you can get many real pizza places to sell it to you cheap. I used to get it from Fat Jimmy's. I'd call Impellizari's, Spinelli's and the like and see who will sell it to you.

I know this is in the past but you can buy the pre-cooked crust at Lotsa Pasta frozen as well.

I've also bought pretty decent frozen dough balls at Meijer's. It comes in a black and red plastic bag on the bottom shelf next to where they sell frozen biscuits.

Meijer actually has a store brand frozen pizza dough that I think is much better than the TIseo's that they also carry and have used in the past. I've bought them both as well as Lotsa Pasta's and believe it or not, I prefer the Meijer brand the best. That's if I'm not making my own using the recipe out of "Joy of Cooking" :D . I had my doubts about the Meijer brand because the flimsy packaging made the dough appear to be a littler freezer burnt; but don't let that fool you, it is very good. The taste seems "yeastier" to me and like John I like a thin crispy crust as well. This dough performed nicely on my pizza stone. You will have to keep a close eye one it while cooking though as it will bubble up quite a bit even after a thorough docking.

Thanks for all the ideas! I ended up just buying the Kroger mix and mixing it up myself. I originally thought I'd be too pressed for time to mess with it, but it really didn't add more than 15 minutes to the whole process.
