If you recall, I've had a couple of unresolved cocktail ideas floating around in my head for a while:
The Chap Stick- That drink where oil is floated on top of the liquid, providing bouquet and coating the lips, providing a super-long finish
Umami Sangria- An old-world red would be enhanced by the flavor of mushroom, creating a drink that truly expresses umami character in a deep, complex manner.
The night before last I stumbled upon the ingredient that solves both riddles: black truffle oil! Duh, why didn't I think of that earlier.
Some of you may remember the Gore Vidal. The cocktail that I made was that base. Here's the recipe:
4 parts Woodford Reserve
1 part B n B
5 drops Black Truffle Oil
The glass is primed with the oil. The Woodford and Bnb are stirred with ice and then strained into the glass. Delicious!
I'll be tinkering around withe sangria soon and will report my findings here first, of course...
