Shrimp/crab- where to buy??

by MarieP » Sat Nov 14, 2009 2:23 pm

I am making seafood enchiladas and am wondering where to buy my seafood at, Seafood Connection, Kroger, or Walmart Neighborhood Grocery? How much more expensive would Seafood Connection be than the others? Thanks!

Wherever you decide to buy...try to purchase wild caught products. Most of that "product of (insert name of Asian country)" farm raised stuff is f-n tasteless.

You also might try Highland Fish Market -- though it may not be close for you.

Marie, Fresh Market has it 16-20 ct. wild American shrimp on sale through next Tuesday for $8.95/lb. That;s $3.00 off per pound. This shrimp is so sweet tasting one would swear it is another species all together. Totally, awesome delcious taste with a firm texture. Be advised however that it is a wild not firmed creature and it will need some serious cleaning. It is sold headless but with shell on. It goes on sale about every three weeks.

Sorry, I can't help you with the crab.

I'd check the ads, and buy whatever is the cheapest - usually Meijers or Wallmart.

If you were doing shrimp cocktail or similar, then the suggestions about "sweet flavor" et al are relevant, but in an enchilada with a good sauce over it virtually all shrimp will taste alike. I think in an enchilada the expensive shrimp are a waste of money.

Just a personal opinion.
