Speaking of Thanksgiving....

by JenS » Sat Oct 31, 2009 2:24 pm

Where can I get a precooked turkey? I'm under a time crunch this year and I've never made a very good turkey anyway, so I thought I would try to buy a turkey and make the sides. I looked into just making a turkey breast last year, but the breasts at Whole Foods are just as expensive as a whole turkey and I really don't want to ruin expensive turkey!

Thanks

Jen,

I think both Kroger and Meijer's sell cooked turkeys if you put your order in. I'm guessing as soon as Halloween is over they will start advertising in the Sunday paper.

Hi Jen,

Butcher's Best in Prospect cooks up a very nice turkey. Jimmy & Amy will work with you on size, sides, when you want to pick up and any other thing to make your day a little less hectic. We got one from them last year and we've already signed up for one this year.

In the past, Popeye's Chicken ( of all places! ) has sold deep fried turkeys in their restaurants. Obviously, this was something you had to pre-order.

Thanks for the suggestions. Butcher's Best sounds promising.

Doll's also does a nice bird. Obviously there's no turkey being cooked in my vegetarian house, but DH occasionally buys one for the holiday.

i'm going to second the popeye's chicken suggestion. i worked for them during my senior year in high school and the deep fried turkeys were very popular. i also remember them being very reasonably priced. don't be scaerd to try it just because it's a fast food chain. i know it sounds kind of crazy, but they really do make a great turkey :)

Is Popeye's Chicken on Bardstown Rd close to where the old cinemas were?

Yes. Right across the street.

I might have to pick up one of those Aldi turkeys. What a cheap, yummy meal for a busy work week! Plus, turkey soup, turkey salad, etc., with the leftovers.

Fresh Market will be doing turkeys as well, along with all kinds of sides available for pre-orders. Orders will start being taken this weekend.
