Decent Roasting Pan...

by Michelle R. » Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:37 am

Thought maybe some of you in the know may be willing to share your knowledge. I'm looking for a good, moderately priced roasting pan. My husband and I don't use the pan but once or twice a year, so I don't want anything expensive, but the one we just tossed was awful. I was supposed to be "nonstick" but everything burned and stuck to the bottom of the pan, and the meat rack was impossible to get clean. So much for nonstick. I know they will be available in abundance in the next few weeks. Any help would be appreciated.

Michelle, thanks so much for this post. I have been thinking the exact same thing. I too bought one of those non-stick dealies and pitched it, it was horrible. I would use mine more than a couple of times a year, but still want a decent but not expensive roasting pan.

Hopefully there will be some good suggestions........

go hunting around marshall's and tj maxx, or that type of store. i shop their kitchen sections and find great stuff. i was there with my mom last week and there were actually all-clad pieces mixed in with the pots and pans! check this out too, i think it may get you pointed in a good direction:

What's the great advantage of a non-stick roasting pan, especially for occasional use? I'm trying to convert away from non-stick altogether.

I HATED my nonstick roaster. HATED it. It was great the first couple of times I used it, then the coating started to wear off, and I just could not get it clean without leaving it in the sink for hours at a time. I can't see any real benefit to a nonstick roasting pan.

As I've been using my stick pans recently, I've noticed how easily even hard stuff comes off with a pretty brief soak in soapy water.

Funny how the nonstick coating just seems to make the situation worse. *grumble*

Since you don't use one often, consider a cheap aluminum foil one. Put it on a cookie sheet in the oven because they are flimsy. Use wads of foil to keep food off of the bottom if you want. When done, dump. No cleanup.

My favorite roasting pan is a big, aluminum job from Dine Company. It was ridiculously inexpensive, and it is irreplaceable. Not nonstick, but it's never been an issue.

Actually, ALL of my go-to baking pans are from Dine. . .

Becky - Dine Company is a great place to buy inexpensive professional-grade equipment like that - but they are not open on the weekends, so be forewarned before you drive over here. The other place that has things like that that is open during more convenient hours is the GFS Marketplace Store. There is one in Clarksville that is open 7 days a week: http://gfs.know-where.com/gfs/cgi/selec ... &map.y=297
