Tailgating ideas using steak?

by Adam Smith » Wed Oct 21, 2009 9:58 pm

We've done burgers and dogs and brats, all kinds of chicken, steak kebabs and cheesesteaks, and various chilis and stews. Ideally we'd like to make some sort of steak sandwich on Saturday and we seem to be running out of ideas. I was thinking maybe some ribeyes with some kind of horseradish type sauce on ciabatta bread.

Just wondering if anyone has some good tailgating ideas or recipes using steak? Obviously the best ideas involve doing as much as we can ahead of time leaving little to do at the game aside from grilling the steaks.

Thanks.

I haven't tried this recipe, Adam, but your question piqued my interest so I did a bit of googling. Of all the recipes that I looked at this is the one I'm going to try.

Fajita burritos, easy to assemble, easy to pre-prepare, grill it there, slap it on a tortilla and eat!

spicy stir-fry would warm you up if it's a cool day of tailgating. in fact, alton brown says using a wok over charcoal is ideal. he says that's the only way the average home cook can really get it hot enough. all of your veggies and meat could easily be prepped ahead. when i make stir fry at home, i just swing by the neighborhood chinese place and pick up some steamed white rice from there so i don't have to cook it. it's cheap and you could do the same on the way to the stadium.

he makes pad thai here, but you could use his outdoor method with any stir fry recipe. here's the episode in two parts:

You can't go wrong with Reubens--or any variation thereof. We did minis for the boat this summer. . .yummmm.

We did ribeyes, two this way and two with just olive oil salt and pepper topped with horseradish. Both on hard rolls. They were equally good. Thanks.
