Chutney

by Carla G » Mon Oct 12, 2009 10:46 am

I'm making a great chicken recipe that uses 1/2 a jar of chutney. Would someone give me some good ideas how to use the other half a jar? Is chutney good with eggs? I don't want to be left with a partial jar of chutney in the fridge for eons along with my 1/2 dozen partial jars of mustard and jams.

Chutney is great with eggs! I use it when I'm making deviled eggs. Also, cook some bacon and crumble it, mix it with the chutney and add 1/2 to some cream cheese and mix it in. Put the mixture in an oven-proof dish, add the remaining chutney and bacon on top and bake until bubbly, at 350 degrees. Serve with crackers or bread rounds, and it is a great appetizer.
I also use it on pork tenderloin as a glaze, coating the pork towards the end of roasting so it doesn't burn.
And I've never had chutney go bad so it can hang out with your jams and mustards, too.

I use chutney on cheese plates all the time- it goes perfestly with most any cheese product. Of course there is always curries.

I have a great recipe version of Henry Bain sauce that dosen't have the chili powder taste that most have.
1 cup ketchup
1/4 bottle Tobasco sauce
1/2 cup worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup chutney
Mix well. pour 1/2 of it over a block (8oz.) of cream cheese
Serve with Bugles

Carla,

Depending on the flavor of the chutney, I love to use them as a spread on sandwiches. For example, mango chutney is excellent on turkey sandwiches. I also do the " thin it a little and use it as a glaze on pork tenderloin" thing.

These are all great ideas. I may have to invest in several other flavored chutneys since I have all these new things I can do with them.
