Honey, green onions w/ chicken or pork?

by Becky M » Thu Aug 20, 2009 4:58 pm

I have this itch to make something with honey and green onions, glazed or something. But, i have never done it before. Would it taste better with chicken or pork? i also don't know if you glaze something like this at the start or in the middle of cooking.... my fear is that the honey will burn, since it is sugary.... will it?

i have been scanning a bunch of recipes and there are sooo many.... i just want to start with something simple. I see a lot for curry and honey, but dont think that would go well with my kids.

Also, does it makes chicken skin soggy? or will it still come out crisp when chicken is baked?

will these combination of flavors even work for pork? honey, green onions, garlic..... for pork i am thinking a pork tenderloin...... or maybe boneless pork chops.....

i really dont know...... i have literally no point of reference here.....

i lied........i might have a bit of a point of reference......

a while back i was experimenting...... i mixed garlic, diced onions, and apricot jam/jelly.... and i threw this on some chicken then baked it in the oven........

BUT...... i heated those three things up first in a pot.... sort of a quick cook before i put it on the chicken......dont know if that changed anything or not...

the chicken was ok......but just not great....

oh well.... i tried...

Becky,

Not a glaze, but I make this side dish a lot. I think it goes well with pork and is also fine with chicken. It couldn't be easier & only takes about 15 minutes from beginning to end.

Glazed Carrots & Green Onions
------------------------------------
1 lb. carrots (6-8 medium), cut 1/2 thick on an angle
4 green onions, bias sliced into 1 inch pieces
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons butter
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
salt & pepper

In a med. sauce pan cook carrots, covered, in a small amount of boiling, lightly salted water 4-6 mins. or till nearly tender. Drain; remove from pan.

In the same saucepan combine the green onion, honey, butter and ginger. Cook and stir over med. heat till combined.

Stir in the carrots. Cook, uncovered, about 2 mins. or till glazed, stirring frequently. Season to taste with salt & pepper.

Eat.

Here is a salmon recipe that we love. I have made the glaze with sweet chili sauce, and I'll bet it would work with honey as well.
