front and center...what folks ask you to make for them

by Sarita C » Mon Aug 03, 2009 10:42 pm

All cooks...what is "your" dish. Ya'll each have one I know. The one thing that when friends and family know they are coming to your house or you are going to theirs they KNOW you will bring it because there will be a small riot if you don't.

Mine is salsa and queso...and if they are lucky flautas. Labor intensive but all my own recipes

that sounds good....

you know....when someone has "a dish" it is always easy for them to make. I guess it is because it is something that you are used to making and it just becomes easy...

It is all Greek to me! I have had family living in Tarpon Springs, Florida for over 60 years now. While growing up we would visit every year (still do) and my love for great greek food was born. Pastitsio is my go to dish and I "own" it!

Chile con Queso. I'm from far, far west Texas. It's my signature dish.
Annemarie, that artichoke spread sounds divine...maybe we can work out a trade.;-)

my BF asks for my shepherd's pie or my stir fry. mom asks me to come over and make chicken enchiladas. it feels good when someone asks you to cook for them doesn't it? makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

and BTW, annemarie, that sounds divine! the creamy, garlic-y topping and then the CRUNCH! of the french bread...mmm...just wondering, have you ever tried adding a little cream cheese or maybe some parmesan?

Interesting- I don't really have one thing or a "go to" dish. I guess because I make a lot of different things. If I have a specialty, it's my Italian Cream Cake, but I only make that a couple of times a year.
Oh, and "crispy green beans" - my in-laws had never heard of steamed (as opposed to country green beans ) and now I get that request for holidays.

Moussaka is one of mine. My husband always requests it for his birthday. We made it tonight. His birthday was actually yesterday. But we were both feeling lazy yesterday....after a long weekend, so we made the moussaka tonight.

It took four hours from beginning, to end (and that's with no slack time). There's just absolutely no way to make it any faster. We had dinner at 9:30pm, but the good news is that we are both full and happy....with enought leftovers for a couple of days.

I am now going to waddle off toward bed. G'night.
