Chicken and peanut sauce .....

by Becky M » Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:03 pm

We had an international dinner at my church a while back and someone brought in a dish that was chicken in this brown thick peanut sauce. It was the best thing there, it was a different taste, but very very good. I believe it was an African inspired dish. I may be wrong, but i think that is it. I have been looking online to find recipes for this and i cant seem to find the same thing. I found some stir-frys, but not what i am looking for. Like i said this was chunks of boneless chicken in a thick, creamy peanut sauce.

Has anyone heard of this, and maybe point me in the right direction? Thanks!

It sounds to me like chicken satay with peanut sauce, which is a Thai dish. Generally, it's grilled pieces of chicken on skewers, served alongside a thick peaut sauce for dipping. I've also seen it served with the peanut sauce brushed on as a glaze.

Google "chicken satay" for lots of recipes, but the below recipe looks like what you're looking for.

There are lots of African dishes that utilize peanuts/peanut sauces, so it could have been something difference.

Thanks for the info Brad. That sauce sounds somewhat like what i had, but this one was cooked. It was very thick but the chicken was cooked right in with the sauce. Thanks for the start though i will start looking up satay recipes and reading about that.

Becky- I wonder if this isn't more of what your are looking for. I used to have a wonderful recipe from the Time-Life series but cannot find it. This is very similar.

The dish you described sounds similar to this one from one of the FoodTV Showdowns. Looks super simple, too.
