My Little Pony Cake??? Help!

by Mandy R » Sun Jun 21, 2009 10:48 pm

My niece's birthday is Sunday and her parents have asked me to make a My Little Pony cake. Any suggestions on what to do? I make huge dinners and goodies for all our gatherings but have never actually had a request for any sort of theme or "professional" style decorated cake.

Oh, Marsha...Are you out there?

I think the hardest part will be to find a pan if you try to tackle this yourself.

If you are not a decorative cake person then I would run out and grab Hello Cupcake at the bookstore. There are some horse cupcakes that could easily be transformed into little ponies and placed on a cake.

Or you could just tell them that this is beyond your ability and make her a nice pink cake. That's what I would do.

Oh, god - I love that book! I got it as a gift last year, it's amazing.

Mandy, I'd love to offer to make the cake for you but I have limited facilities right now for baking and decorating, which can't be done out of my home. When I decorate I usually just frost the cake and then trace a sketch on the top, and use a star-tip to make the outlines and fill in with colors. But if you're not used to it it can be tedious and frustrating. Why not just make a pink girly cake like Michelle suggested, and buy one of the small plastic versions of MLP for the top? Then you'd have a cool 3-D cake, and a toy for the birthday girl to keep as well!

this website really has a lot of nice ideas. I often look here when thinking of what to do for my children's cakes.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, Gary. This is a cakewreck waiting to happen.

Decorate a sheet cake to look like a pasture, and add My Little Pony toys. We had one for our daughter several years ago, and she loved it--especially since it meant she ended up with new Ponies!
