Where to buy Sumac?

I want to make some middle eastern kabobs. Anyone know were to buy sumac, which i'm guessing gives that distinctive flavor? Second question, once i find it, anyone have a marinade recipe? Thanks all.

Try Nutz and Stuff on Preston. Also, there is a spice store in Chenoweth Square S/C .. St Matthews. Don't know name of it.

I just bought some this week at Cration Gardens. They have the big plastic jars and you can take as much as you need.

I've seen Sumac mentioned as an ingredient in a couple of the packaged Middle Eastern spice mixes. Maybe try that route.

Correct, both places almost always have it. I have a good-size tub from Lotsa Pasta in my spice drawer now.

Sumac can also fall under the name of "Zatar", you can buy it at your favorite grocer if you don't find it at SM. The most popular brand is made by Zayad.

I believe za'atar is a blend of herbs, spices, sesame seeds and salt. I could be wrong, international class was a long time ago.

Sorry, Senior Moment.... I was thinking Hyssop! That is the base of Zatar.
