Rachael - Enough already

by Kim H » Thu Apr 30, 2009 2:17 pm

Is it just me, or are you DONE with Rachael Ray? I used to have a 'love/hate' relationship with her. She sort of annoyed me, but I appreciated her enthusiasm. And that network has gotten so into reality/challenge/iron crap tv, that was not what I was so happy to see when they first arrived on the network. So for a while, I was happy just to see ANYone actually cooking on there, including her. And, I've tried to do the 'food tv' thing in my own kitchen, for, well, no good reason except that I wondered if I could, and it's HARD. I'm lucky if I don't cut something off without a camera distracting me. So I had respect for a while. I still do, actually. But now, I'm tiiiiiired of Rachael. I can handle her travel shows, cuz she usually has to talk more softly. I think she's damaged her vocal cords, honestly, but I don't know. I just can't believe how much she turns me off these days. (appologies if I offended anyone, but just wondered if others had any similar feelings. I can't even watch her 30-min show anymore. mute, or move on.)

Ugh. Don't even get me started on RR. Yum-o? Sammie? EVOO? Give me a freakin' break!

I've never seen her make a single thing on her show that I haven't either made or thought of on my own. I cook from my pantry practically every night of the week - big whoop.

Don't get me started. I used to LOVE her. I liked her enthusiasm, her attitude, even her food seemed somewhat healthy and appetizing when they first started showing her show on Food TV. Now, it seems like her shows revolve around a couple of versions of two things...mac and cheese, and hamburgers, and whatever nastiness is in her fridge and cabinet, thrown together, and served up. Her voice is annoying, she seems like a diva, and I literally cannot get away from her. She's on tv, magazines, cookware boxes, knife sets, billboards, crackers, evoo...etc...omg, GO AWAY!

FoodTV is going to end up like MTV...they'll have to start a separate channel to show actual cooking shows!I used to love this channel...now it just seems to be a shell of the genius idea that it used to be. Sad, really. :(

Yes, Rachael has become annoying but the one that REALLY drives me up a wall is that idiot "Duff" on on Ace of Cakes. What a moronic dingle-berry. The only one more annoying is Jeff, his goofy qualude-headed side kick.

I'm sorry. Carry on.

That's funny! I haven't been that adamant about it, but recently, I've gotten to where I can't even stand to see her face or hear her voice. Used to watch her quite a bit. Ok, maybe I am that adamant!

YES! I agree completely. I don't even have cable TV and we don't watch network so my exposure to her has been limited to hotels, gyms, and newspaper. Even with such limited face-time she still manages to get on my nerves. The few times I've seen her show it's not even cooking--- it's food preparation and assembly. Why would I want to watch someone prepare things I already know or can easily figure out how to make? And she just screams and rants and raves... ugh.

The CJ mentioned a fake magazine a few months ago called "Every Freaking Day with Rachael Ray". I never bought it but I love the idea.

I want to watch a cooking show to learn new techniques, how to expand my ideas on ingredients I'm already familiar with, or how to cook ingredients I've never tried. This is why I now own 99 episodes of Alton Brown's "Good Eats" on DVD. Muuuuuch better :D

Don't forget the BBLD!!! (breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner!) Aaaaah!!!!!

I know, she's EVERYwhere. Her voice has gotten worse, and I think what really drove me over the edge was her goofy laugh at her own bad jokes. "hmmmm! hmmm! hmmmm!" whatever.

I still love Alton, and DDD, and like a few other shows, but I agree with you. And it is sad. I can't tell you how happy I was when I first started watching this channel, which ironically, landed in my parents small-town tv before it hit here. I'd stay up til 4am watching show after show of cooking, and actually learned things!!! Now, it's like American Idol meets food.

My least fav is still the Stepford woman on Semi-homemade. Really- what does that even mean?
My all time fav was David Rosengarden during the ninties. I was on his quiz show and he was one of the nicest most intelligent food experts I'd ever met.

Ive hated that bitch from the first time I saw her show. Like another poster said...its just assembly, not cooking. Alton is about the only thing I watch on that channel anymore, although I did see that Guy F dude with the weird hair the other day. He went to my favorite pizza place in Chicago..it was uncomfortable watching it with him there...I felt violated somehow. Where did all the old school tv cooking people go?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Does anyone find it ironic that she is now pushing a line of dog food?

The absolute worst on Food TV is Sandra Lee and Semi-Homemade. Inexplicably, she has a second show coming on.

Agree regarding Sandra Lee. She frightens me. She seems kind of possessed. And waaaay too happy. I've seen the show like twice but both times it was some really scary "food". See below:

Spicy Bat Wings and Bat Chips with Goblin Dip
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(These might even taste ok, who knows, but the name and the ingredients I just find weird.)

Italian-Style Macaroni and Cheese
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(I don't know any Italian people but if I did I bet they'd be very upset over this!)

Mexican-Style Macaroni and Cheese
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(See Italian-Style commentary)

Macaroni and Cheese with Broccoli
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(Who needs a recipe for this?!)

Cucumber Tea Sandwich Flowers
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(Might taste good, but too cutesy and weird... look at the picture)

Chunky Chili
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(The name plus the image is just gross.)

And, in case you realize you can't handle Sandra Lee without some type of mind-altering substances in liquid format:

Red Tini
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
(Not only is the name totally uncreative, but it's basically vodka and what, gatorade? I mean, the electrolytes are probably a good strategy to reduce hang-over... and if you're eating with Sandra Lee you're going to want a lot of them... so maybe it's not such a bad idea after all.)

Capputini
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sand ... index.html
I think she has these for breakfast. I mean, what could be easier than pouring vodka into Frappuccino? This is probably how she gets the inspiration for all her culinary creations AND stays so gosh-darn-happy.

Never have been able to stand her! I remember reading about her upcoming show in some airplane magazine, and thought, "I could do THAT!!!" As it turns out, I believe I could do it much better! Or something better. Ugh. And the production is terrible. There's like a pink hue to every episode I've seen.

An ironic show for me is one of the latest, 'Cooking for Real'. I feel she is one of the fakest tv food hosts I've seen. Something about her - I can't change the channel fast enough. For real. And the Neeley's (Neely's?) ... I know the Q in Memphis is probably great, but those two make me sick with their 'sweetness'. And I used to work with someone who sooooo reminds me of the 'Mrs.' (forget her name), and she was a backstabbing B. Maybe I can't get past that, but geesh. Keep it in the bedroom, and off my tv.

LOL! I love the Ace of Cakes crew (dream job!) but this made me laugh a lot.
And yes, Rachael Ray has gone beyond annoying to just plain intolerable.
