Fresh Figs?

Has anyone seen any around? I'm guessing I'm going to have to go down to Creation Gradens.

Creation stopped selling them to the public in Nov (because that is when I needed them) and said they wouldn't be available again till summer. I don't recall ever seeing them this time of year.

Paul's Market always has them in season, Beth, but they don't usually start showing up until late June or early July. I'm pretty sure on this timing because I love 'em and watch for them every year. Whole Foods sometimes has them, but Paul's are better, and Paul's is local.

In recent years, Paul's has had them MUCH later in the season than ever before. A few years ago, they only lasted a month or six weeks, but for the past couple of years they've had them well into fall. The later ones don't seem to be as flavorful, though.

They most often have purple Mission figs, but every now and then they'll show up with some green figs. It's unpredictable.

fresh market on shelbyville rd. has them. i was there yesterday and saw them packaged in a clear container by the fruit and vegetable aisle.

I was so excited when I read your post, Annemarie, that I hopped in my car and immediately drove down to Fresh Market. However, I am sad to say that those are dried figs. It says so right on the label. When I do buy dried figs at Fresh Market (and I do quite often) I much prefer the dried Calimyrna figs that are sold in the bulk dried fruit section. Those figs are edible semi-soft and like raisins and prunes can be eaten in the dried state, but the ones from the produce section need prolongs soaking or cooking.
