Tomato soup in chocolate cake???

I recently got The Cake Doctor cookbook and have a large list of recipes that I want to test out. I tried a ginger-pear recipe not too long ago, and it turned out delicious! There is one recipe, however, that I am scratching my head over. It's chocolate cake...with tomato soup! Has anyone ever tried this out???

Marie, that recipe is an oldie, dating bake at least to WWII! I know that many supplies were difficult to get a that time, so possibly it was created to allow the making a chocolate cake using less chocolate or sugar which were scarce commodities. It sounds interesting, if nothing else. I'd probably give it a go, once. I've seen a recipe for Tomato Soup Cake on Google, and supposedly, it tastes just like Spice Cake...
