A Great New Derby Treat

by Steve P » Tue Mar 31, 2009 4:46 pm

OK...So we've been here 7 months and I'm starting to get the flick. This Deby stuff is really BIG business around here and any time there is big business there has GOT to be a way to make money from it. I mean you've got Derby Pie and Derby this and Derby that. So I was sitting on the deck this afternoon enjoying a refreshing adult beverage (Hey, I'm retired, what can I say...I was celebrating April Fool's Day) when the idea hit me for a GREAT new Derby treat...

Vienna Sausage Flavored Pork Rinds...Wrapped in Bacon.

I'm gonna need marketing help on this one...Anyone ?...Anyone ?...Somebody go get Phil.

Gayle,

Hey !...I've seen pictures of the Grandstands at the Derby...Nice lookin folks. I've also seen pictures of the infield on Derby day (Not sure where you would find more teeth...the infield at the Derby or the infield at a NASCAR race). Now you TELL me those infield folks at the Derby wouldn't be all OVER my "product". Assuming Phil comes to my rescue (Hey, he solved the problems with Bardstown RD) and my marketing budget doesn't go through the roof I'm also toying with the idea of Chocolate covered pork rinds (70% cacao of course)...If this takes off like I think it will I might decide to try Kentucky Speedway in June...I KNOW those NASCAR types would be on this like a pot of neck bones. I can see/hear it now..."Here comes the Kentucky Pork Rinds car rounding the first turn..."

Hmmmmm...two words just occurred to me: "State Fair"...<sigh> and maybe someday...Shelf space at the Liquor Barn

Pour a couple more. No telling what other fantastic idea you will come up with. :>)

You could do bacon wrapped pickled pigs feet and call them "Pork-in-Boots".

Yeah, I think so. The bacon-wrapped pork rinds are a golden idea though. I think soft fried bacon (to contrast the pork rind crunch) would work best.

Now here's another idea: Bacon-Wrapped Klondike Bars.

What would you do to a Klondike bar?

Sorry to be late to this topic, but you're missing the ultimate enhancement for all of these items. Each also needs to be breaded and deep-fried. Think corndog meets elephant ear. You'll kill at the state fair. Feel free to use this idea - no royalties requested.

Wait, great concept, but let's take it platinum by localizing it! Deep-fried, bacon-wrapped Derby-Pie™!

State Fairs...do they crack you up or what ? There was an article I read some years back about the Minnesota State Fair. They claimed to hold the record for fried food items available...56. I can hear my arteries cracking just thinking about that <G>.

Sorry to chime in so late on this topic. I hope I made it in before product developement stages were over. The idea of a bacon wrapped pork rind, battered and deep fried is ok, but if you really want to send it over the top, you will need a BBQ dipping sauce.....
If you keep looking back, you will miss what's ahead....
