Last Sunday, in a moment of weakness, I volunteered to make a large pot (serving 10 to 12) of chili for our church's Annual Congregational Meeting and Lunch. As a fund raising effort for Dare to Care the
youth provide a "Souper" bowl lunch before the meeting. I don't know what moved me to volunteer. I don't have any "youth

" The choices were chicken noodle, vegetable or chili. I chose chili. Since then it has dawned on me that they were talking soup; I was thinking chili/chili con carne/the "North Dakota" chili of my youth. Oh my gosh, am I suppose to have spaghetti or macaroni in this offering? Did they really mean soup?
I planned to stop at Fresh Market for the fixings after the wonderful lunch at Bombay Grille, but Richard M informed me that Fresh Market was still without electricity. So I stopped at Kroger Middletown. Do you know that the ground meat at Kroger comes with "natural flavorings?"
As you can tell, I am trying to procrastinate, but bit by bit I am on my way. I have browned the meat in batches, also the onions, garlic, and peppers. I really don't know what I am doing. I have four recipes out in front of me. That's what I like about cooking versus baking. One doesn't need to be as precise.
This has been great therapy for me - writing - as I have finally gotten my act together. I think what I am ending up is what Rachel Ray would call a "stoup." (Excuse me, John Hagan.

) I don’t think I have ever opened so many cans at one time. It is quite tasty and I know it will taste better tomorrow when I reheat it.
Wish me luck
