Preferred Meats in Sellersburg! It's outstanding, not just the best meat market in Southern Indiana but possibly the best in the metro area. Locally produced beef and pork sold fresh, plus some other good quality meats sold frozen.

We grilled a skirt steak from there last night and it was possibly one of the best steaks we've had!! We get all of our meat from there now. Something else I learned about the place the other day is that the people that own the store actually own and raise the beef on their own farm!! I love it.

well we went to preferred meats and bought some ribs.....but they smelled awful.....we have never had fresh, fresh meat before so we thought maybe it was because it was fresh, non-processed meat.....but i really dont know.....the meat smelled bad before we cooked it and while it was cooking......and i dont mean just a bit off.....it smelled awful.....just as if it was rotten....but since we bought it fresh we dont know if that is how it should be........i have tried to look it up online and see if fresh pork should smell like this, but i have not found anything......

any input on this from anyone would be appreciated.............

That's really not pleasant, Becky! If you're not used to natural meats, you may find them more "robust" in flavor than the commercial product, but it shouldn't have smelled awful. If you haven't thrown it away, I would consider packing it up and taking it back to Preferred Meats and asking their opinion. They're nice people, and should give you an honest response.

Becky, you said that they smelt bad while you were cooking them. Did you eat them? I'm with Robin, I would call PM's and ask them. Tell them what happened. They are very nice. We have been getting all of our meat there for just about a year now and have never had a problem with anything. I go 2-3 times a week and have tried just about everything they have to offer. Call, I would hate for you to miss out on a wonderful place over one thing.
