This article tells more than you ever wanted to know about the food value of that very important burgoo ingredient: Chicken of the trees

Note: I hate to make this "us against them", but squirrels and chipmunks are the reason I can't have a vegetable garden.

Note 2: Mad props to the Big City Chicago weekly for this article. Whodathunk they'd know about this kind of thing?

We used to soak them overnight in the five gallon bucket with saltwater and ice. Next day make a small pit next to the fire, put squirrely in aluminum foil with salt/pepper, onions, beer, bacon, or whatever we had (usually beer). Seal the aluminum foil and put it on a bed of coals, cover with more coals and then some dirt. Go fishing or hunting some more. About 90 minutes later you had something a lot better than that can of spam in the truck.
