What's the best restaurant supply for home chefs?

by Art T » Mon Dec 20, 2010 11:17 pm

My wife wanted to buy her dad a 46 qt pot (he makes his own maple syrup) on Sunday. A quick web search showed that restaurant depot was open on sunday. We found out its not "really" open to the public unless you have a tax id#.

We had one so we bought the pot. But I'd be more interested in public places just in case my Id# doesn't hold up to, um, scrutiny.

So you don't have to turn to a national chain forum for information you can get right here in this locally owned and operated forum ...

D'oh. On another forum where I moderate, my favorite posting to bust people's butts is "do a search noob".

Does anyone know if the stores mentioned in the other threads have post-mix soda fittings and supplies? I've been collecting the parts from ebay for awhile and now all I need is some help and some fittings to put it together. I'll be searching (noob) in the meantime.

Nah, we try to be gentler than that, Art. Lots of times a golden oldie question brings up new answers, comments and war stories, and that's all good. No harm!

It's just that I do kind of like to encourage the regulars to see if the answer lies within the forum or LouisvilleHotBytes before we look at the CJ or national corporate sites that would probably like to Walmart the locals if only they could ...

I am biased by personal friendship with the owners, but Allrite Food Equipment across the bridge can get you just about anything if they don't have it and they have a large stock of used equipment that is smartly priced. Talk to Terra or Mike and tell 'em Ronnie sent you (you'll at least get a good story or two out of it)
