Ice Bins?

by TrishaW » Fri Dec 03, 2010 1:12 am

Is there a place to get ice bins for a restaurant reasonably priced? Not $2300? A friend of mine needs one asap for the restaurant he manages, but hasn't been able to find one. I"m talking about the container that the ice falls into from the ice maker.

www.searchtempest.com searches all the craigslist listings from where you are and out to further cities. Craigslist has been a huge part of the used equipment I have found even if you just use the Louisville Craigslist and type "restaurant" into the search box there are a bunch of ones selling used equipment.

Otherwise local companies that sell new and used restaurant equipment are Dine on Preston Highway, Fetzer and Chef Supply are on Main street downtown.

Chef Supply has a ton of used stainless equipment that sits out in the back of their place. Might be able to negotiate something similar that will work for pretty cheap.

You could try the JCPS surplus auction. The next one is on Dec. 20th. They will sometimes have ice machines and they usually go pretty cheap. Of course you have to buy the whole thing but taking the top off isn't that big of a deal. I can go over and take a look and see what they have and get some dimensons if they have any this month if you like.

Everyone is always looking for refrigerated sandwich stations. They must be charging a fortune for those things new. They don't really use those in schools anymore.
The only thing on your list they may have this month are stainless tables. They yanked out all of the fryers in schools many years ago. Most of the refrigeration units are pretty well used up as well. By the time you buy a new compressor to replace the old ones in them, you could have bought a new one.
There are always LOTS and LOTS of small-wares. They will have convection ovens, stoves and steamers from time to time. Lots of deals to be had though. A few months back I saw a double Vulcan convection oven that was working fine when they brought it in go for $100  !
