Looking for good, different shrimp sauces

by Robin Garr » Thu Nov 11, 2010 9:04 am

Anybody got favorites, old or new, as an alternative to the traditional tomato-horseradish-tabasco blend? Looking for a smorgasbord of options for a Thanksgiving buffet, so delicious sauces that aren't unreasonably time-and-effort-consuming are a plus. :)

It's a sweet chili sauce. It's pretty easy to find these days. Lotsa Pasta has it, but I feel like I've seen it at Wal Mart before too, possibly even Kroger and Fresh Market. It's really yummy; we use it for all kinds of stuff, including shrimp.

New Orleans remolaude sauce, it's the best. If you need a recipe I have a good one.

I have also seen a variation on the recipe AM just posted that included a bit of pureed peaches.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

REMOLAUDE SAUCE

1 cup mayonnaise
½ cup ketchup
2 tbsp whole grain mustard
4 medium dill pickles, chopped
1 tsp horseradish, or more to taste
½ cup finely minced parsley
1 tsp minced garlic
Hot sauce
Salt & pepper to taste

Combine all and blend in a food processor until well mixed. You can adjust the above proportions to suit your personal taste.

This is going to sound strange but here we go...
I saute raw shrimp in pesto and put in the fridge to cool.
Then I drain it and toss it with chopped cilantro, lime and dust it with chili powder and serve it cold.

Robin,

We really really Earth&Vine brand " Mango-jalapeno dipping sauce " on shrimp. Not sure if anyone carries it locally anymore ( Liquor Barn used to carry them, but haven't seen their label lately.) But, I have some at my house that I'd be very willing to share. Just let me know. :D

How about going a different direction with some of the shrimp. I addition to a few different sauces you could try pickling some of your shrimp. There are a couple of good recipes on food network web site.

Tempting, Deb! I'm actually asking on behalf of a friend who doesn't live in Louisville, but I'll tell her in case there's a source of this in Elvis-land. I wouldn't mind trying some of yours sometime, too, but no rush for me. :)

I'm a big fan Earth and Vine sauces and condiments. It also use to be available at Fresh Market. These days I order online: http://www.earthnvine.com/

When I had mt catering company Mango Mayonnaise was extremely popular. It couldn't be easier.
3 Cups mayo
1 mango
Juice from 2 limes
1 very finely chopped jalapeno or a big pinch of cayenne (optional)
Salt

Throw it in the food processor and let it rip.

A homemade Green Goddess is also wonderful with shrimp.

Several years ago we pickled about 10 pounds of shrimp for my brothers engagement party, and it was a huge hit, everyone loved it. I used a Camille Glenn recipe, and it was great.
