KY Freshwater Prawn Harvest This Week--Frankfort

In case anyone is interested, KY State University's aquaculture research program has announced that they will be selling freshwater prawns harvested from their ponds this week at Frankfort's Farmers Market (east end of Broadway, downtown Frankfort, KY.) You'll need to bring your own ice coolers if you come for this.

Sales begin Tuesday and Thursday, 9/14/10 and 9/16/10, at 8:30 am; Wednesday, 9/15/10, after 3 pm; and Saturday, 9/18/10, after 7 am.

There are other prawn growers in Central Kentucky as well; don't know what their distribution plans are, but this brief annual window of availability is something a number of area chefs and patrons look forward to with serious anticipation. Harvest time!
