Is there nothing better than a B.L.T. w/ garden tomatoes?

by Sarita C » Fri Jul 16, 2010 9:46 pm

It's the ultimate comfort food.

My own:
White bread slightly toasted
Red leaf lettuce
Huge slices of heirloom tomatoes so juicy they have to be in the middle so they don't soak the bread
Miracle Whip
Wright's applewood bacon

YUM!

Ironic thing is...my husband does not like them in sandwiches. If I slice them thin...I can get them past him.

I have a bunch growing in the garden...if anyone is in my area (slightly west of the gordita trailer) just give me a call...you are welcome to them. There are far more than we could consume.

Best,
Sarita

Farm stand?! Where :). When I go up to Madison, IN - I see several roadside farm stands ,but not many in Louisville.

For our special this week we are featuring Avacado & Bacon Sandwiches with Heirloom Tomatoes. They are incredable. We smash the avacados into a paste and add just a little seasoning, spread it thick on toast w/ the bacon and tomato. It's a party in your mouth for sure.

Didn't have any bacon handy, so dinner tonight was a BLTGCA with basil being the B

2 slices of sourdough bread
Black pepper goat cheese as the spread
1 large yellow heirloom tomato, thickly sliced
handful of basil leaves
green leaf lettuce
sliced avocado

I meddle with the toppings alot over the course of the summer - smoked gouda makes a good 'bacon substitute', pesto makes a great spread for the bread, etc.but the 'tomato and something' sandwich is a staple for me right up until the garden dies off.
