The first of this summer 's tomatoes....

by Dan Thomas » Tue Jun 15, 2010 7:37 am

I harvested the first four ripe cherry tomatoes yesterday and promptly ate them in a salad for dinner.
They tasted like...Summer! :D

Got our first few cherry tomatoes this weekend - yes! They weren't hard as a rock, and actually had lots of flavor!

Dan,

Are the cherry tomatoes part of your upside down garden collection or are the growing in the ground?

They are part of the upside down planters. As a control, I planted some the old fashioned way.
They aren't doing as well as the ones I planted upside down. I planted them in a low spot and they have actually gotten too much water. :(

I'll post some pictures of my little experiment when things really start ripening here in a couple of weeks! :D

Let me know how the upside down planters do... I thought about trying them this year, but never got 'round tuit...

Therefore, all of our plants were late getting in the ground... We won't have any tomatoes till way into July.... :( bums me out...

I just used five gallon buckets that I have a pretty steady supply of.
Here's a link to the method I used. Seems to be working out pretty well so far.
