German Apple Cake

by Suzi Bernert » Mon Apr 26, 2010 5:51 pm

I had several folks ask for the recipe from the Welcome to KY party last night, so here it is:

German Apple Cake

1/2 Cup butter
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
11/4 Cup flour
1 egg
2 Tbsp. cream
4-5 large apples, peeled and sliced

Mix dry ingredients and butter like a pie crust until lumpy. I use a pastry blender. Add egg and cream; mix well. Pat into a glass baking dish, pressing and spreading the dough about halfway up the side. I use a large round Corning quiche pan. Arrange apple slices on the dough.

Topping:

3/4 Cup sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
11/2 Tbsp. flour
2 heaping tsp. butter

Mix all the ingredients with hands and spread over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until apples are done.

I usually serve this with a nice vanilla ice cream.

Thank you for the compliments, this so easy, it is almost embarrassing to accept the praise.

Susie,
Thanks for posting the recipe. As you know, both Bob and I loved it!!! Even though I'm not much of a baker, I will try to tackle this one!!! What kind of apples did you use? I think Bob asked you last night but I can't remember! It was great and I look forward to making it.

Suzie,

Mmmm I have had dreams all week about that apple cake. I need to try this out. We will have to put double doors on the house at this rate.
