Steve, no logging on the property but lots of downed trees due to storms. Former horse farm now turned into lots of gardens on the hill top, and nothing but peace, quiet and trees at the bottom by the creek. We have lots and lots of aging woody debris, and even more since the ice storm. I'll start scouting around the property and maybe we can organize a small morel-hunting offline for those interested. Happy to share if this works out to be a good hunting ground.

I'll be very curious to see how you do. Please keep us all up to date. I fall into that category of enthusiasts that really don't pin my success on the number of mushrooms I find...I just love being out in the woods. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity in the next week or two to take a mini-road trip to a couple of the parks people have mentioned to do a little recon work myself. Thanks to all who shared their ideas.

I found over 50 morels within 3 miles of downtown Louisville today. They are around, and you don't have to go to Mammoth Cave or anywhere else. Some of the ones I found are as large as a coke bottle. Several Kroger bags worth! Probably the most fun I have had in years! Cant tell the location though..its secret

After making my earlier post I went running in Cherokee park and found 2 large yellow morels on the side of a trail in the grass. Never found them there before but thought I would divulge that tidbit. Its not where I found the big haul, but I think the conditions are perfect right now for large yellow morels. Look in grassy areas that aren't mowed and are close to a tree line. Morels love to grow on the "edge"

My brother, who lives on Lake Cumberland, found 117 in a sinkhole behind his house. My parents found 50+ near their neighbor's house who was MOWING them down. They've saved me 6 of them, gee thanks.

There's a festival in Estill county this weekend (http://www.kentucky.com/964/story/770937.html) where you can pick them up for $10 a pound but that's a long drive. Anyone know of a local source? I'm even *dreaming* about them.
