by Steve P » Mon Jan 25, 2010 7:49 pm

Sooooooooo just wondering about everyones choices for Super Bowl snack and apps. Favorites ? Most unusual ? Most memorable ?

Me ?...It wouldn't be the Super Bowl without wings-wings and more wings.

have to agree with you Steve, wings o plenty but I also make stuffed bannana peppers. The real trick to these is finding whole pickled ones instead of sliced. Value market seems to be my only source so far.

Wings, pizza, nachos, chili/kraut dogs. All the healthy stuff.

I do stuffed banana peppers using fresh peppers...Never tried to use the pickled ones, might have to give that a try.

Seems the vinegar adds a nice tang. I stuff mine with a mixture of country sausage, creme cheese and parmesan cheese bake em at 350 until heated thru about 20 minutes.

Here's a great snack mix from Food and Wine. A half-batch still makes a ton!

AB's nachos have been a staple for the past 3 years. I also tweak my own wing recipe a little every year.

White Chili seems to be a big hit as does any of these dip type things.
Crab Dip
Layered Taco Dip
Skyline Cream Cheese Dip
Spinach Artichoke Dip
Queso....I like to put some cooked sausage in mine.
And one of my personal faves, Pumpernickel Dip... I take a round of Pumpernickel and hollow it out, saving the innards for dipping purposes, and fill the bread "bowl" with a fresh dill dip mixed with julienne pastrami or salami and finely chopped dill pickle. Yum :D

I use AB's wing recipe. The steaming part is genius. A baked wing that is just about as good as fried.

Chorizo and Beef or chorizo beef. If chorizo beef, are you buying if somewhere are making it. I have never been able to find any chorizo other than traditional pork.

I'm really surprised these haven't been mentioned...but then I only had them a few years ago. My sis-in-law makes an appetizer with the mini-weiners (nathan's if you can find) that she wraps in a half slice of bacon. She then sprinkles brown sugar over the top and bakes. I usually pass on hotdogs and even more so on the miniature versions, but these things are addictive!

Another good one is armadillo eggs... pickled whole jalapeno peppers stuff with cheese or cream cheese, rolled in sausage then rolled in bread crumbs. Lightly fry to get the breading crisp and bake to finish cooking the sausage. I've also used some of the milder peppers and they turned out pretty well too.
