blue cheese burger disaster........

so i have been on this blue cheese kick......putting it on my salads alot......and i made this really awesome dip with it.......all my magazines are talking about burgers on the grill and blah blah blah....so.....i said let me make some blue cheese stuffed burgers......how hard can it be right?.........

i looked online.....read a few recipes.....then kind of did my own thing.....i like to get ideas.....so i mixed blue cheese and a bit of philly cheese for binding it together....i seasoned a huge bowl of ground beef with salt and pepper.....and formed a nice big burger (with my husband in mind) and i am sitting there looking at this and saying so how do i get the cheese in there.....soooo.....i poke a hole in the middle with my finger.....and then proceeed to try and put some cheese in there.......quickly realizing that i need to make a little funnel with a baggie.......so i use that.....and after the cheese is in there......i cant close it up.....every time i try to close it....the cheese is trying to come out....so i get a little piece of meat and try to shape a closing.......so then i say maybe i should make two thinner patties, put the cheese in the middle and then top it with the other burger, and then close up the sides......well this worked better......and looked nicer.......

i go to start my grill and.......its drizzling.......i hope it dies down......it doesnt......i go lay down with one of the babies....because of course he picked this time to get cranky......my husband comes in asking for the lighter because hes going to chance the rain and start the grill.......well i dont remember where he placed it last......our stove is electric and we are not smokers.....so this tiny white lighter is the only thing we have to start the grill.....he finally finds it....but the coals wont burn....might be the light drizzle hitting them....i dont know.....he gets frustrated and tries to make the burgers indoors......

this is where the fun starts......

the burgers.....that i stuffed with blue cheese......are coming apart in the pan.....they are just splitting off of eachother....remember the great idea of the two patties on top of eachother.....well....its not working out......they are coming apart....blue cheese mixture mixing with the grease that is coming off the burgers......so my husband is trying to drain this off into a container on the stove.....hes frustrated.....hes not the cook in the house......in his frustration he knocks over the grease/cheese mixture......which is now all over the stove....i have a glass cooktop so it just went right on the hot burner......smoke everywhere!!!.....my husband is trying to clean it up with anything he can find........he sort of wipes it up .....only to announce.....im done.......

sooo.....i clean the stove......the pan.....thankfully i had more ground beef in the fridge so i just make some regular burgers.......i boil the corn as opposed to grilling it....i still prepared the avocado to top our burgers.......dinner was okay......late....but still good........

oh yeah and the blue burgers are in the freezer.........

Im no writer by any means,so I probably should not comment, but that style of writing does remind me of the Telex machine my Dad had in his office.

Becky, I believe that Mike is referring to your abundant usage of ellipses. No offense, but I agree. They make is very difficult to read your posts. They're just not very easy on the eyes.

Not to pile on, but - it would be lovely just to see a period, question mark or a capital letter once in awhile.

Lord knows, no one around here is being held to strict grammar or spelling rules - but all those dots are hard on the eyes.

Hey, Becky - just thing how much faster you'll type without having to type all those dots in between the sentences!

Plus, since technically ellipses are meant to signify an omission, I keep wondering what you're leaving unsaid, Becky.

I wouldn't apologize, Becky. If that's your style, and you prefer to do it that way, stick to your guns. Personally, I agree with some posters that it is a bit hard on the eyes. I like the substance of most of your posts, but sometimes don't make it all the way through or skip parts because I have trouble following with all the dots. The bottom line, though, is that it's MY problem that I have trouble with your style, not yours.

Stick to it if you like it, but just keep in mind that some readers may gloss over your posts or not fully read them.

A comma or a period, or even hyphen can also denote a speaking pause. Just change it up a little once in a while, Becky. I'm with Brad - I like your stories but often don't read the whole thing because I get exasperated trying to find the end of even one sentence.

Thanks for the input everyone. I will try to change some stuff up. The way I see it is, if people are scanning my posts, but like what I write, it is worth it. Funny thing, is that I am a stickler about grammar, go figure.

Also, I type very fast; I think that is why I don't take time with all the "fluff".

I am a retired teacher who taught at least one honors English per semester during my last seven years and who has no trouble reading your posts at all. There are basically no misspellings (omitting the apostrophe doesn't count in these days of text messages). Your posts are lots easier to read then most of my former students’ text messages!

I love English teachers! I also sat through a few English honors classes, . One of my favorite women was a college professor who knew what a gerund was.

The dots don't bother me a bit, Becky. Personality, as far as I'm concerend. I know who I'm hearing from when I see those, and I'm glad to see you posting!

Back on track tho - did your husband cook the burgers in which you had used 2 patties? In my experience with 'stuffed' burgers, I did a similar method to the 2 patties, but I more formed the beef (or whatever) around the cheese. Take the first half of meat, and make a bit of a well. Place the cheese in this well. Put the rest of the meat on top, but now slap it around and shape it like it's just a normal burger. Chill to let it set (but bring back to room temp before grilling/cooking. sounds redundant, but the chilling seems to help). That has worked well for me in the past.
