That was the first thing I said about the menu. Get rid of the Asian, it doesn't fit.

Twice we've been there- it is desperate need of a facelift. Also, any menu with
" cookin' " makes me cringe. Times have changed, add a few healthier items and maybe a vegetarian plate.

Agree on this too. Outside of bison, there are not a lot of places to get anything other than beef, pork, fish, and chicken. A few "game" options would be nice, and could provide a reason for Louisvillians to make the drive.

Also, if I'm thinking correctly, it's relatively close to French Lick/West Baden - perhaps a discount for resort guests?

I like the game option as well and would give me another reason to drink full bodied red wine. .
French Lick/West Baden could be a tough connect...at least an hour away over mostly 2 lane roads.

Not really that close, Brad. I'm thinkng between 40 and 50 miles as the crow flies, and no roads built for speed. Might work for Horseshoe, but even the it isn't a quick trip. The best bet for the Overlook is to include it in a Corydon itinerary along State Road 62, which takes you through the Harrison State Forest and is fairly scenic. It's also an excuse to stop outside Lanesville on the way up or back and visit the nice folks at Turtle Run Winery.

There is a road built for speed to get to French Lick. They built it for that very reason, for a quicker way for city people to get to the casino. Google map doesn't even show the road, mapquest does. 49 minutes, 41 miles from The Overlook.

Driving
From Louisville
68 Miles · 70 Minutes
I-64 West to SR-37 North / IN-145 (Tell City-exit 79), Continue to follow IN-145 North to French Lick.

Roger-
I'll second your recommendation for a stop at Turtle Run in Lanesville. As you said: Nice folks and decent wine. Another winery stop in the area I recommend is Scout Mountain, just off Rte. 62, about 5 miles West of Corydon.

I'll concede the point, but it still strikes me as a long drive to have dinner. Perhaps that's why I've become such a city slicker.

I have never been to French Lick either, but I just want people to know they added a new road and it could make the trip faster from Louisville or The Overlook.

You may want to loook into Joe Hubers and sort of copy some of the things they are doing. For example you have a great spot for a country wedding. Build a gazebo/trellis sort of thingy and buy yourself 50 folding chairs. Surely you could do 20 weddings a year if you make the price right.

Also you could try to market to school groups/scouts/etc that make a field trip to Wyandotte.

It is a bit further than I thought, but one large issue with French Lick/West Baden is that with one exception, the ONLY non-hole in the wall or non-chain options in that area are the resort restaurants, which I found to by mediocre and outrageously expensive. The one exception is the restaurant at the nearby Beachwood Inn, which we found to be exceptional.

Also, with a discount, Louisvillians/New Albanians making the trip to French Lick might stop on their way to or from to eat. A nominal 10% discount might be enough to pull a few extra folks in.

There's also a little Italian restaurant in the winery at French Lick. It does good business despite the fact that's it's rather mediocre.

Before heading out to Wyandotte, you might want to call ahead. I seem to recall the caves there being closed due to some disease affecting the bats. AFAIK, Marengo is open.

Justin,

We have never been, but if there was an al fresco option with a nice drive and beautiful view (with good food), we'd DEFINITELY make the trip out.

I know they are going to do al fresco dining, not a doubt in my mind. They are working hard on improving the food. As I said, the food tasted pretty good, but lacked any presentation and the atmosphere is greatly lacking. It is amazing how much plating and atmosphere can affect a meal.
