Return to El Mundo

by Paul T Carney » Tue May 08, 2007 2:01 pm

Since El Mundo is one of the restaurants that comes round regularly in food discussions . . . I went in for lunch today (my Spring return . . . I haven't been in for months).
I ordered a fish taco and a cold Pacifico, chatted with Joe, and then sat out on the sidewalk with my order . . . and it was just what I wanted it to be. The fish was flaky and perfectly done, the greens and salsa fresca were fresh and tasty. Thanks Joe!
I know a lot of people have had uneven experiences at El Mundo, myself included, but this was El Mundo at its best: simple, unpretentious, and delicious.

Thanks for the report, Paul, and welcome to the forum! For what it's worth, we had a very nice experience at El Mundo (dinner upstairs) the most recent time I was there, within the past couple of months. I had no sense of being recognized, and it was certainly crowded and happily noisy, but the food was fine and the service appropriate.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. It is always a sincere pleasure to hear good things spoken about the Mund. As an owner now, I only seem to read about the bad experiences people have had and rarely the good. So thank you all so much. And especially to our illustrious host of this forum, Mr. Robin Garr.

Come on, Joe, don't give me a swelled head ... my bride hates it when people puff up my ego like that. ;)

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Mund, though ... you guys were just opening when we moved back to town from NYC, and at the time there still weren't that many great places on Frankfort. We've been coming in ever since ...
