Former Kunz's Restaurant

by Kurt R. » Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:01 am

Does anyone know what is going on with the former Kunz's Restaurant? I was by there the other day and the for sale/lease signs are all gone. I had the understanding the property was owned by the state, but that could be wrong.

Word on the street is Merhzad Sarbaiani (owner of Z's Oyster Bar and Steakhouse) has taken over the site.
I wonder what his plans are.

Cool, a reversal of the recent trend: an East End eatery opens a new location downtown.

Total stab in the dark here: I wonder if this is Shariat's widely reported new bistro-to-be. Either some confusion between Merzhad and Anoosh, or maybe Merzhad is backing or partnering with Anoosh.

Whoever it is, I can't wait for a new downtown Z's or Shariat's! :D
When in doubt, add more wine.

I ran into Anoosh at Sam's last week and he wasn't very forthcoming about his new location...He told me that he's still working out a few things but he seemed excited about doing his own thing again...That man can do some AMAZING things with vegetables...I can't wait...

If I could have tomorrow's paper today, I would be a very rich man . . .

(well, maybe not a Gannett paper, but you get the idea)

silly me. I actually thought today was Friday. (It's actually Thursday.) It's a well known hazard of being in the cake biz. Since I'm finishing Friday orders today, it must be Friday . . . Pastry people never know what day it is.

So that's my excuse.

Now, oh great see-er. What's in tomorrow's paper?

And can you help me with some Lottery numbers?

A large restaurant operated by the managing partner in Z’s Oyster Bar and Steakhouse has signed a lease for the high-profile corner of Fourth and Market streets across from Kentucky International Convention Center.

The new venture, to be called Z’s Fusion and featuring “creatively prepared, elegantly servied” continental and Asian cuisine, will lease 10,000 square feet on the ground level of the state-owned Cowger Garage.

Kunz’s closed its restaurant at the location in January 2007.

The Kentucky State Fair Board, which manages the garage, voted today to approve an initial 10-year lease with the Z’s Fusion partners. They will pay the state $100,000 a year in rent, with lease extensions possible.

Just curious (and ignorant), how does that rent sound to the restaurant management types on the forum?
