I couldn't agree with you more Ronnie. It seems there is a segment of society that will never be happy unless they are allowed or condoned to belittle other segments of society either for their race, religion or their sexuality. They view the rest of us as fanatical "buzz kills" that just don't know how to take a joke. For them, life just isn't as much fun unless they can blamelessly make fun or demean others.

Ronnie is right, racism or sexism is never OK.

read the legal complaint . . . if not true, I'd agree, but she appears to have witnesses for each point (note that the actual complaint is different from what was brought out in the depositions and what's being discussed on tv and in the media)

As a lot of folks have observed many times, Americans love to build folks up and then tear them down. There is a lot of piling on and sanctimony in this story.

But the reason we all know about this is because Paula Dean has been marketing herself to the American public for years. She doesn't "deserve" everything she is getting right now, but I'm not sure she "deserved" everything she's been getting over the years.

All the details aside, I think nostalgia for the days when genteel white folks are served by polite black folks who know their place is a terrible nostalgia. I know that there are places whether this dynamic is still played out, but to design in that way is beyond questionable.

Caesar's/Harrah's just announced that her restaurants "would not be renewed".

What's tough here is that for years she's given interviews and written about how she founded her empire, she runs it, and it's HER money. Now, she's attempting to say that she really didn't mean what's being stated about her, and she was unaware of much of the activities in her restaurants. I think the public pilloring is due to the fact that she can't have it both ways! In fact, while her brother is in trouble (with Bubba's Restaurant) in the lawsuit, she is probable immune for all but a slap on the wrist from the courts, unless the court decides to believe her past interviews and press statements rather than the restaurant incorporation papers!

Her interview on Today was pathetic. I don't believe her for a min. Tammy Fey Baker tears.

As for building her up just to tear her down, don't look at me, I've been calling bullflop on her since she first obnoxiously "ya'lled" her way into public consciousness.

sanctimonious silliness indeed!

I hope she takes him up on the offer.

Wow !!! Good thing this Fox affiliate reporter doesn't own a restaurant and have her own line of cook wear, lest HER career would be over. 8)

Seriously, heads should roll for that gaff.

I thought you had to be moderately intelligent to be a news anchor, obviously this isn't the case. Do they just blindly read the telecue without engaging their brain? It was obvious from the first name that this was a send up. Whoever originated it showed extremely poor taste. Absolutely ridiculous.
