Saigon Cafe

Has anyone eaten at the Saigon Cafe @ 106 Fairfax Ave., St. Matthews? My Vietanmese nail tech keeps raving about the place. She says the Bun This Nuong w/ Gha Gio is better than "back home."

We've been there several times. We went once with a fairly large group and that put them in the weeds a bit but the food has been consistently good to us. Ease of communication is according to who you get as a server. It's very like Lemongrass Cafe that preceded it in that location. If you've already been to VK, Annie Cafe & La Que then I'd try it.

I haven't eaten there Gayle, but go to the same nail salon. Great folk.

Love Saigon Cafe!

I actually think it is better than VK although my wife would yell at me for that. :)

We went there recently with a largish neighborhood group, Gayle, and did put them slightly in the weeds, but they handled it amazingly well.

They have taken the old Lemongrass concept and made it much better ... they kept the old Thai and Chinese menu pages to keep the regulars happy, I guess, but they've put a good, authentic Vietnamese menu over it. I would rate the menu as not quite as extensive as VK but with all the basics, and the food preparation and quality at least as good.

They have Vietnamese in the kitchen and a Vietnamese hostess, American servers who are really with the program and know the food. Our server even was given a Vietnamese nickname by the kitchen staff.

In short, yes, very good. I hadn't gone because I assumed it was just another iteration of Lemongrass llike La Que on Bardstown, but it's not. It's really good Vietnamese, at least as good as NamNam for St. Matthews Southeast Asian and far better for atmosphere ... it's bright and clean and colorful.

Yes. And most nights it's not super packed (although I hope that changes) so you can have a nice quiet dinner.
