Petra Restaurant & Coffee LLC

by Brian Curl » Sat Feb 12, 2011 8:07 pm

I went there last night with Parents. Great Lamb Dishes and Chicken, hummus and all of the standard mediterranean food. Big portions and delicious....everything was great. Food came out fairly quick. The also have coffee and espresso bar. The owner is from Jordan. There were people there from Egypt, Palestine, Jordan and all over the middle east.

And a separate, dedicated room for Hookah smoking!!! Some guys that were there let me try the Hookah and they were very friendly. They were eating in the Hookah room and playing cards. Go try this place for the atmosphere, food, coffee and tea, you'll have fun! I really enjoyed it.

The hookah was $10 and includes tabacoo and they said it would last 3 - 4 hrs. We are going up there tonight if anybody wants to stop by. Will be there probably about 9pm.

Bypass the Bypass!

It turns out that Bardstown Rd under the shadow of the Buechel Bypass has a pretty great and diverse dining scene happening.

This is the newest addition to the array of geographically specific groceries and restaurants in the area and I like it.

The setup of the place is awesome. They have indoor, outdoor, and indoor/outdoor seating. They have table and counter service.

The food is great, standards for a Middle Eastern restaurant but they are done well. They also have a lot of juice options and hookahs.

Service was good, although there was some intercultural misunderstanding. The owner is very friendly.

Small restaurant on quiet, but commercial stretch of Bardstown Road in Buechel. They have delicious gyros, generous portions, fair prices and friendly service.

I think it is a special license/permit, similar to Cafe 360

I went again last night and smoked for about an hour. The price of the hookah is $10 and includes tobacco which I think can last 2-3 hrs. The tobacco is flavored and it doesn't taste or smell anything like a cig. From what I've read, this is a good price for the hookah (read at 360 they are $20). The room is not smoky nor does it smell. I hate cig smoke but it is not at all the same.

I had 2 lattes and Baklava and both were very good and well made. They also have frozen fruit drinks. I think I'll be hanging out here, about 7 minutes from home, looking forward to the warm weather and sitting outside on the patio. They do not serve any alcohol.

I hope one of the local food critics gets to this spot for a review. Virgin restaurant awaiting review, who's gonna get there first? :)

Here's a link to info on hookah's if anyone wants to learn more....

Thanks for the review Brian. We have been meaning to stop in that place for a while now. I assume they make a gyros?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

There were women there and smoking hookahs. There were 4 women there by themselves. Also, some college age kids came in, 3 guys and 2 girls. They give a 10% discount on everything with college ID. It's a very warm and save environment. My girlfriend felt comfortable there. We played connect 4 on my phone for quite a while while I smoked. We both had lattes, me two of them and her 1 and baklava as I mentioned.

They to have gyros. I think they call it shawarma.

Oh, I don't think I mentioned this but they also have frozen, virgin fruit drinks. It looked the color of mango and I saw the college kids drinking them.

Also, their rice is excellent, they use some kind of special spices (I can't remember what).

About $7 for the hummus platter and delicious fruit drink with banana chunks and honey. The pickles and pepper come with the various platters.
