Review de Rivue

by Adam Hitt » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:26 pm

With a great scenic location atop the Galt House West, the Rivue restaurant was an easy walk for an after work meal.

Straight to it:

The food was pretty good and the atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and peaceful. With piano being played in the background and the rotating overlook of the city, it was a very pleasant experience. My meal was the NY Strip Steak at $33. It was not the best tasting steak I have ever had, but it was very tender and cooked to my specifications. It was served with what were basically french fries. Sliced potatoes fried like fries. A Catena Malbec wine went very well with this dish.

Issue:

One of my companions on this evening selected the other steak dish on the menu. It was a filet priced at $36. The problem between our two dishes was the portions given. My Strip Steak was very good sized, and when it came out I was very surprised by the amount. However, the filet steak was very very small, and seemed inadequate (compared to the other) for the price. Lamb and Pork dishes were also ordered at my table, and both of these were inconsistent in their portions. I don't know why the portions were on opposite ends of the spectrum, but it was visibly evident.

Conclusion:

This is a fairly expensive restaurant, and the portions should be consistent especially in closely priced dishes. I feel this problem needs to be resolved in order for the restaurant to maintain a high level of service.
The deserts which we had were also different sizes (even the same orders). The wait staff was very nice and the service was good.
In light of the inconsistencies, I am only able to give this restaurant 2 out of 5, even though my dish was decent.

I'd just say keep your day job and leave the food reviews to the pro's cause that made absolutely no sense

I thought the review was well written and made perfectly good sense.

Not to mention a rather rude remark to a person who has only written his first post.

Welcome to the forum, Adam. That river view is a bit pricey. Moving to Wales or just visiting?

Makes perfect sense to me, Brian, and I can't help wondering why you thought it would be a good idea to be rude to a newcomer to our forum. Let's try not to do that, okay?

Welcome Adam.

I got the message in your review loud and clear. At Rivue's price point, consistency in portion size maters, as does the food. Yes the view is excellent, but all aspects of the food service should be also.

If the filet was the same size as the strip it would've cost $45 or more. It is a more expensive cut of meat. A typical filet is 6-8 oz., where a NY strip is likely to be 12 oz.

Along with Ron, oh and welcome, it is hard for me to understand about portion size because of the fact that filet is more expensive and smaller in portion to a strip. So you can't adequately compare a filet to a strip, that would be like comparing apples and orangutans. You would have to compare filet to filet etc. Since I don't know if you are aware of that fact, I can't make a decision yet. If you didnt know that I would ask what you would think about the place now that you know, filet is more expensive and smaller by nature? If you did know that, I would like to know how small that sucker was?

I thought the review was ok however when I read the review it sounded better than a 2 out of 5, in other words the rating that he chose seemed much harsher than his words.

I wonder if this is Marty in disguise?

Oh John, are you a conspiracy theorist? Ok, Adam and Brian are one in the same and I wanted to do a review as an anonymous poster so I could criticize myself.
