Big Ben Cafe?

by Mark R. » Fri Jan 07, 2011 5:48 pm

Has anybody heard what's going on with this location? We went by that today while we were heading to Verbena Cafe and there were no signs of any activity with the location. I know when they first closed there was speculation that they would be reopening after reinventing themselves but it's been quite a while with no signs of activity. I'm sure the area could support another restaurant of this type, all of the existing ones seem to be doing quite well.

I have no inside knowledge, but when I heard that they were "stepping away to re-energize," I thought "uh huh." :?

I think it's entirely human to feel very bad about the demise of a small business, and the restaurant industry is a harsh business in which a lot of new ventures don't last out their first year. A certain amount of denial is not unknown ... it's very easy to put up an "on vacation" sign when you know you're closing the doors forever. I certainly wouldn't want to sit in judgement on that.

I don't have any info on Big Ben's but I just couldn't resist whinning :( again about how much I loved the tandoori chicken and now I can't get it because they are closed!!!! :x

I hope somebody who knows something will comment on whether they are actually going to reopen or not so I can just get over it!

Thanks for listening to my rant! :)

Well-ranted, Karen! :)

I'd only like to point out that I really, really wanted to try the tandoori chicken, but we went to Big Ben three times and they never once had any of it. In a way, this told me the whole story about Big Ben, or at least a significant part of it.

It's listed for sale. Let me find it. And if I'm wrong, I'll delete.

Yes that's it. I guess that means that Robin's speculation was unfortunately correct.
