New Restaurant- Hammerheads

by Madi D » Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:38 pm

Hey everybody!

Some friends of mine just opened a restaurant and bar called "Hammerheads" in the old Swan Dive location in Germantown. I attended the soft opening last night and had a great time. All the food that I tried was FANTASTIC. Really good. The owners have worked at alot of top Louisville restaurants including Seviche, Blu, and Jeff Rubys. For the last year they have also been traveling to festivals doing bar-b-que with their huge smoker. The really put alot of time and work into sprucing the place up and creating a menu that is alot more than just bar food. They also put alot of love into interesting and delicious vegetarian dishes.

Last night I tried the "Smoked Cheddar Grit Cake", which was crispy and seared on the outside but still creamy and luxurious on the inside. I loved it and in fact I am craving it right now. Just the perfect amount of smokey flavor mixed with creamy insides and served on a mixed green salad, yuum. We also had the "Crisy Mushroom Medley" which was far from your standard fried mushrooms. They were huge slices of portobella and other wild mushrooms served with sundried tomato aioli. This seems like
a great vegetarian dish because the mushrooms are so meaty. I also got the "PBLT" which is pork belly lettuce and tomato on thick texas toast..... mmmmmmmmmm..... melt in your mouth delicious. Washed it all down with a Hoptimus and finished with a Bacon Brownie. I cant wait to go back.

Check out their Facebook page for pictures and more info.. they are working on getting their website up and running right now. I am so excited for Adam and Chase, I know how hard they have worked but mostly I know what they are capable of. Adam is an incredibly promising young chef and left his Sous Chef position at Seviche to open Hammerheads. I am personally vouching for these guys- they really know how to cook.

921 Swan Street, Open 4pm to 2am everyday.

Mark and I were also there last night and were very impressed. We only had the brisket but it was outstanding - just the right amount of smoke, sauce and spice. Perfect. We watched the presentation coming out of the kitchen on the other dishes and it looked very professional.
We are glad to have them as neighbors, Please check them out.

We rarely venture into Germantown...it's just not convenient for us...but I'm thinking we might have to mosey down and check out the "Q".

We went for dinner last night and loved it.

Mushroom Medley: This appeared to be portobellos and shiitakes. They had a nice amount of breading and were served with a delicious aioli. My husband hates mushrooms, and even he ate some. The portion was generous.

Pulled Pork Tacos: Two tacos with soft tortillas (corn, I think) were served on a beautiful wooden tray. The meat was tender, juicy and smoky. Fresh cilantro and diced tomatoes added a zesty counterpoint to the earthy meat.

Sweet Potato Waffle with Fried Chicken: What a great deal! a huge, melt-in-your-mouth waffle served with three huge chicken wings. The chicken had a nice heat to it.

Thinking about taking the family to Hammerheads for dinner tonight. The reviews sound fantastic and the menu looks good. I do have a few questions...

1. Are they opened on Monday?

2. Do they serve beer?

3. Are there any daily specials?

Thanks. DD
