need close-by indian restaurant

by Ellen White » Tue Aug 31, 2010 6:51 pm

On my way home from my sister's house in crescent hill to my house in st. matthews, I need to find a close-by Indian restaurant. We usually go to Bombay, but it can be a pain to get there in rush hour. Is there anyplace around brownsboro road (between lower brownsboro road to holiday manor to lyndon to hubbards lane kroger? or lexington/shelbyville road between from crescent hill to shelbyville road plaza? or even at dupont?
I just need to find someplace closer than Bombay for when my daughter gets these insane Indian cravings!

Ellen, you have just described the boundaries of my usual world. :D

But here's sad news: There's no Indian within those boundaries. Probably the closest is that little place over in the McMahan Plaza at Hikes Point, but that wouldn't be close enough to suit me.

Actually, from our place in Crescent Hill, I consider Kashmir or Sitar on Bardstown Road to be the closest. I don't know if that would work for you, but that's my Indian fix.

From Lyndon it's not all that far to Goose Creek Rd., where the people from the old India Palace have their new restaurant. Just a thought. (can't remember name, but next to Wick's and across fm new Turkish restaurant, near Westport)

Noted, but for purposes of this question, I'd note that Sitar and Kashmir are still closer to Crescent Hill. Wrong direction from Lyndon, though. :?

Thumbs up to Taj Palace. It's about 5 minutes from Holiday Manor. Nice weekend buffet as well.

Thanks. I'll check out Taj Palace. I'm actually going from Crescent Hill to the far end of St. Matthews. I live right at the construction zone just inside the new Westport Road exit (about 1 mile west of Westport Village), so Goose Creek is pretty close. Also, didn't know about a new Turkish restaurant either. Thanks everybody!

The boundries of St. Matthews are a bit nebulous. Seems to extend from Cannons Lane to out past Oxmoor, Taylorsville Road to US 42. Lots of square miles inside that space. When I was a kid it was from the old Mall to the old Sears to the old Bacons...completely revolved around shopping.

Nah, it never extended south of I-64, Mark. Along with Jeffersontown and Shively, though, it was one of the three larger suburban cities, and it did grow a lot during the postwar/baby boom years, taking in as much of the suburban commercial development as it could for tax revenue. The historic city was centered on the "five points" intersection of Shelbyville Road, Chenoweth/Breckinridge and Westport Road, and took in residential areas between Cannons and Hubbards on both sides of US 60.

Historically it was named Gilman's corner after an old saloon at the Five Points, but somewhere in the depths of time it was re-named St. Matthews after the original St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, which was also located around Five Points and closed in the 1800s, a century before the current St. Matthew's Episcopal opened at Hubbards and Massey in the early '50s.

There's yer local history lesson for today ...

I meant Taylorsville at Breckenridge or Taylorsville at Cannons Lane...Hikes Point/Bowman Field. I wasn't referring to offical boundries...just a sense of what is considered St. Matthews by those of us from J-town.

Nice approximation, but the city boundaries aren't a neat circle.

Yeah, and there are even cities/neighborhoods within St Matthews.

NO, I don't think they will ever finish it!!!!!!!! I will say, the expressway is fantastically convenient. However, I live in Woodlawn Park subdivision, which is RIGHT THERE where they are doing the construction now. It is really dangerous, especially trying to get into/out of my subdivision, and the only way access to where I live is Westport Road. Now, they've got Hubbards Lane at Westport Road all torn up, too. And it extends all the way past Target.
I want to move so bad I can taste it, but I am making myself bide my time until the road is finished. I just can't picture someone paying good money (read: as much as I want them to pay) to buy a house in my neighborhood right now. Once the road is finished, I'm out of there!
Until then, I just keep praying that we won't get killed by a large speeding vehicle while waiting to turn into our neighborhood.
