Dunno...Their menu is very heavy on Shrimp, maybe they are/were having trouble getting product. I've heard from two or three prominent sources that not only is Gulf seafood pretty difficult to find but that many of the suppliers have actually gone out of business...permanently.

Might the prohibitive cost/availability of shrimp - they even shrimp on their logo. We ended up at Chili's (hey, my husband was crabby from hunger and I let our 14 yr old son choose the spot). Our server said the story that he was told by a former employee of Furlong's that also works at Chili's -- sounds rather gossipy, doesn't it? Anyway, the rumor is that they knew that they would be going out of business soon and that the owner or the general manager or someone else that worked there had taken all of the cash on hand and left town. So I am now perpetuating a rumor. Any facts available out there?

Following is a market report that I received at the top of July. ---

"Indonesia's shrimp production is expected to fall short of the target of 400,000 tons this year due to the spread of disease.
Shrimp pond operators said production this year is forecast to reach 87.5 percent, or 350,000 tons.
A shrimp infection disease which broke out late last year has not been fully overcome, they said.
"We are lucky if we could produce up to 350,000 tons with the government showing no interest in addressing the problem," said Iwan Sutanto, chairman of the Indonesian Shrimp Club.
The government offered no assistance especially to small farmers when the harvest failure late last year and early this year, Sutanto said. He expressed disappointment as the problem has come when demand is high on the world market."

The shrimp market looks to be toast for the time being-
We have removed shrimp from our summer menu.
I have information that the domestic farmed prawn market may be gearing back up. Great news as this would be a much more trusted and responsible source.

sidebar, I thought Furlong's logo was a jockey riding a crawfish???

main topic, this is really sad to see. Obviously I'd like to see as much Cajun cuisine out there as possible! To compound matters, we just got Furlongs coupons in our ValPak this week.

Anyone know more?

Much more likely it's a lack of money than a lack of shrimp. Places usually don't close and then reopen.

After the underhanded ousting of the original chef/creator I avoided the place. We wound up there one day under dubious circumstance and I decided to try them. Dirty cutlery, sullen service and lackluster food followed. Of the 4 of us there that day none of us had anything good to say about the experience. Correction: one of the ladies liked the restroom.

edited to remove the reference to Minot, North Dakota. My apologies to Gayle.

I'm with Mark, went once and didn't want anymore. That location seems to struggle.

If it's only a shrimp issue why not explain that shrimp items are unavailable when the menus are handed out.

Because of the questionable practices and press, I've avoided going there. Hate it because I love the orginal building/house. However, it is a royal BITCH to get in and out of.

I'm Tommy Walters...Creator and Founder of Furlongs in Lexington and Louisville....I've been in a lawsuit with my partner and have not been in my restaurants since November 24, 2008 and I want to truly apologize for your experience..... When I do get my restaurants back...And I will...I would like to invite you to come have dinner with me...Furlongs of Louisville has done over $1 million dollars in the first 192 days this year so far....It did not close because of lack of business......We have a court date August 10,11and 12th.... Tommy Walters 859-913-5611 tommywalters65@gmail.com PO Box 24262 Lexington, Ky. 40524 Please send me your information.....So I can and will contact you

I truly apologize for anyone with a "Bought" Gift Certificate......I will make those good when we reopen either on Shelbyville Road or elsewhere......We are trying to negotiate with our third partner for Louisville right now.....but with him out $3 million......it's obvious he has a bad taste in his mouth..........

My heart goes out to the 60-70 employees and their families............
