Amerigo Italian Restaurant

by Anthony Lorie » Fri Jul 13, 2007 9:09 pm

Just a note to let everyone know that Amerigo will open for buisness on Wednesday July 25th. The restaurant is located at the previous Harper's location at 871 S. Hurstbourne Lane which we have completely renovated. We recently added the Louisville menu to our web site at http://www.amerigo.net. Click on locations/menues then look for Louisville at the bottom. The menu has our versions of classic italian cuisine as well as a few twists, along with some local products and dishes. We are offering not only dinner but lunch 7days a week as well as brunch on Sundays. If anyone has any questions please feel free to post or send me a private message. Thanks!!!

As I lived in Nashville for nearly 20 years, and am familiar with both the Brentwood and West End locations of Amerigo, I am awaiting the opening of the newest addition. Happened to drive by this weekend and the place is looking very sharp.

Glad to have you in the neighborhood!

Just to clarify, Anthony is an old-timer in the city and on the forum ... he and Scott Schamel were the kitchen chefs during the first months at RAW (where, without knowing them, I complimented their cooking while nitpicking the sushi chef ;) ) and later opened Bluegrass Bistro in the Derby City Antique Mall, where Scott still works.

Anthony has been off in Nashville learning the Amerigo ropes, but he's back, not new.

I'm suspending my disbelief about chains long enough to see what Anthony does at Amerigo. ;)

Don't they make most everything from scratch? THAT is what surprised me so much about this 'chain'. Anthony - can you elaborate?

Kim, I don't think we fit the mold of a "chain". Amerigo is owned and operated by a very very small group of people that are very expierienced in running and operating restaurants, that come from a wide variety of fields in that industry. We are not a publicly traded restaurant. I think the closer definition would be a small buisness since Louisville is only the 5th location for us over a 2 decade period. As far as from scratch, we spend 200-300 hrs a week preping and preparing items in our prep kitchen. All of our sauces, soups, dressings, entree items etc, etc, are prepared daily. The list of items is to great to list. Another aspect of our restaurant that we are very proud of is that we use local items such as produce, jellies and cheeses in and on our menu items, as well as using locally owned seafood and produce companies. I hope this answers your questions and hopefully you will come and visit us. Ask for me when you come in, I would love to introduce myself.

I'm looking forward to trying your menu out. I'm a little worried about over saturation of Italian establishments in the area, though, I must admit. From the sounds of things already though, we'd be much better off with Amerigo than most of the established places on that strip.

Good luck! My wife and I are sure to try it soon after opening.

Good luck. I used to live in Nashville, it's a great town.

Louisville is good to. I lived in Louisville 30+ years and loved it.

I see on their menu that they are going to serve "Chef Tony's Hot Brown" on their lunch menu, sounds good from the description.

A out of town coworker that told me, as he is in town, that he stopped in there yesterday and was treated to a free meal by total luck. Apparently they were doing tests of the food and training. They invited him in and he was allowed to partake in whatever they were doing. They were drawing from hats to see what dish you get. He said he liked it a lot and I trust this guys tastes so now I am interested.

Thank you for having Italian wines on your list. I am so tired of going to an "Italian" restaurant and looking at a winelist full of Australian cabernets.

Was just wondering if anyone had been to Amerigo's since it opened and if they had a report? Was considering a visit next week .....
