Friends of Campbell's Gourmet Cottage asked to help

by Robin Garr » Mon May 24, 2010 5:31 pm

Friends of Susan Lukjan and of Campbell's Gourmet Cottage - a number in which I certainly count myself - are asking local foodies and food-industry people who know and respect Susan and her shop to please consider writing letters on her behalf in the aftermath of the jury decision many of you may have heard about. Here's more information from forumite Linda B., but I wanted to introduce this post with my own strong encouragement that everyone here consider helping out.

From Linda:

For those who don't know Susan, she is the owner of Campbell's Gourmet Cottage and on Friday, May 21st was convicted of arson and insurance fraud with a total sentence of 22 years to run concurrently. (You can google Susan Lukjan and read/watch parts of the trial.)

She is innocent and is appealing this ruling. I am asking for your help so that she can stay out of jail during her appeal process.

Thanks to each and everyone of you for considering writing on her behalf. Please feel free to pass this on to your friends, family, contacts, etc. Every letter will mean so much and will certainly

Please feel free to post a PM to [ Linda B ].

More information:

Susan's attorney has suggested that letters to the judge (that presided in her case) showing support of Susan could be very beneficial to her. As most of you are aware, the outcome in Susan's trial was very unexpected and - disappointing - - the jury found her guilty.

Letters should be factual, in support of her as a person, and above all be respectful and not mention any trial details or the jury outcome. These letters must be positive as Susan still faces sentencing (July 23) and we need to help keep her out of jail while the appeal process begins. The judge has the power to place Susan in custody and we do not want that to happen - so your help is requested. The date may seem some distance off but please, please do not wait until the last minute. A constant flow of letters supporting her would be perfect.

Please take a few minutes, reflect on how you know Susan and her good points. Each letter should be unique, individual and from your heart. Please pass this email to anyone else that you feel may take a few minutes and show similar support.

To put this in better perspective, think if you were the person wrongly convicted - wouldn't you want your friends to help you''

Address your letter to:

Judge Audra Eckerle
Jefferson Circuit Court, Division 7
700 West Jefferson, Justice Center
Louisville, KY 40202

Your letter should reference the case as - Commonwealth of Kentucky vs. Susan Lukjan
