Just thought I'd see if there is anything new in Nashville since the last thread. From that one I've printed out the Menus for Sunset Grill, Zola, and Miro District F&B. We are onlt there one evening and are looking for comfortable mid-range dining.

Gary , here is a link to a place in and around Nashville called Demo's http://www.demosrestaurants.com/index.cfm
My husband and I really like the food and atmosphere there. We have been to the one downtown and in Murfreesboro, now that being said we haven't been in a couple of years, but were very impressed when we were there last. It is locally owned and not a big chain. :D

I also recommend a little place just north of Nashville called Ri'chard's Cafe (we were just there last fall and from what I have seen on their website they have recently remodeled) where the food and the music are both lively. You never know when the owner (Ri'chard) or maybe the cook will join in with the band or songwriters. I have been there twice and got the jambalaya both times and it was very good, slow cooked. You must save room for the beignets...they are great! It's a small place so you might want to reserve a table. Here is their website http://www.richardtrest.com/.

Let us know where you end up going and how you liked it. I love Nashville!

Sunset Grill rocks, in my opinion.

Well, my trip was yesterday and it was greaty fun. After printing out all the menus for my friend to look at it turned out he was obliged to hear a jazz trio for work (he is an arts presenter) so we went to F. Scott's to hear her.
It was a delightful experience and the food was delicious; I would recommend it to anyone. It's quite upscale, I had a fois gras and peaches app and grilled head-on prawns and panzanella with a smoked tomato vinaigrette as an entree. The vinaigrette was a deep dark smoky combination of flavors that offset the heirloon cherry tomatoes in the salad. Dessert was grilled peaches on toasted angelfood cake with basil oil, a balsamic reduction and marscapone. The combination was surprising and addictive. I wish I lived neared so I could return.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Gary,
I'm so glad you got to go to F. Scott's and to know that it is still going strong. We have been there many, many times in the past and loved it. We just haven't been in recent years so I wasn't sure it was still there. In fact, we started going there when it was a tiny place out in the Green Hills area. One birthday celebration there, was the first time I was served wine in Reidel glasses in a restaurant--so impressed!!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane and glad you had a great experience.

I can't wait to go, Justin. The Paterson House and it's Bacon Old-Fashioned are definitely calling me. I'll pass on the Elvis panini, however.

I thought I'd chime in here as a Vandy alum.

Best Breakfast (near campus)
Noshville
Pancake Pantry

Good Hamburgers:
Rotiers

My Favorite Restaurant:
Monell's

Allow me to get verbose.

Monells is tucked away in Germantown in Nasvhille (I didn't know there was a Germantown until I went to dinner here). They serve family style food in a sit down, all you can eat fashion.

Tables that seat about 20 people are filled in as people enter, and meals are brought out, starting with cold salads and ending with delicious desserts.

The cucumber salad and broccoli salads that start the meal are worth the trip alone... from there good, southern food is heaped upon the table.

Fried chicken is a constant feature and the skillet fried variety they serve is some of the best I've ever had (sorry Grandma!) and the other meat dishes are equally delightful (I've had pot roast, bbq ribs, bbq chicken among others).

Then they bring out the vegetables... corn pudding, mashed potatoes, red potatoes, green beans are among the multitudes. If you finish a bowl, they bring you more. Biscuits circle the table, tempting you to eat them and overfill an already stuffed stomach.

On top of that, they have a sweet fruit tea that puts the meal over the top in both deliciousness and calorie count.

Go hungry, leave when you can stand up again.

I LOVE going to Monell's when I'm in Nashville. It's always an adventure because one winds up seated with complete strangers. A friend and I went on Thanksgiving Day a couple years ago since we had no family to visit, so we feasted with people we'd never met.

The neighborhood is cool, the food is excellent, the house is quaint, and there's a lovely little garden area if there's a wait time involved.

I would love to see this restaurant concept brought to Louisville. I know Claudia Sanders does family style, but IMHO the food at Monell's is MUCH better. If I had money to invest in a project, I'd definitely try bringing this style of restaurant to Louisville.

Next time you visit the Nashville area (after it dries out), stop by the "Loveless Cafe" (http://www.lovelesscafe.com) on Hwy 100, in SW Nashville, near the northern terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway. It is country cooking at its best (what Cracker Barrel will always strive to be, but never achieve)...the lunch and dinner menus are great (EX-cellent fried chicken), but their breakfast menu is awesome and traditionally Southern (including homemade biscuits, country ham, red eye gravy and sorgum). 8)

We returned yesterday from a Nashville visit.

Friday dinner - PM (http://www.pmnashville.com/). The food was outstanding. We shared the glass noodle pad thai (pad thai with delicate glass noodles, blanketed with a thin omlette and served with two dipping sauces, one fairly hot and one more vinegary) and a few starters. The pad thai was really, really good, and the addition of the omlette blanket was a nice touch. PM has a nice drink menu, but our drink orders were not executed well. Our friends swore it was just an off night for the bar.

Saturday lunch - picnic lunch at Arrington Vineyards (http://www.arringtonvineyards.com/). The wine tastings are free, and the wines were mostly pretty good. The viognier and rose were standouts, the cab was pretty good, but the chardonnay and Red Fox Red (pinor noir style) were duds. The facilities are beautiful, and the weather cooperated and made for nice afternoon of wine-drinking in the sun.

Saturday pre-dinner - Patterson House (http://www.thepattersonnashville.com/). It was discussed above, but you really should visit this place. One of the more impressive cocktail menus I have ever seen, and the decor is outstanding. Go early - lines form around 6:30 or 7:00 on weekends to get in, and they only allow the number of people in that can get a seat - no standing allowed. There is a large bar in the middle with tables along the walls, a nice patio and a small but interesting food menu. We had the tater tots, and I drank the bacon manhattan and walnut old fashioned.

Saturday dinner - Park Cafe (http://parkcafenashville.com/). Upscale but unpretentious restaurant. I had the scallops (with Bentons bacon) and my wife the pasta rounds, which were surprinsgly good. Sunset Grill is still my favorite in Nashville, but Park Cafe is now a not-too-distant second.

Sunday brunch - Athens Family Restaurant (http://athensfamilyrestaurant.com/). Pretty good Greek diner with American items as well. It hit the spot.

How many times did you drive past it before you found it?

You summed up my feelings of the place pretty well, it's awesome. If it wasn't for the $11 price tag on the cocktails, I'd never leave.
