Las Vegas Food tips

by Kyle L » Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:04 am

My yearly "business" trip is approaching in two weeks. While this is a couple weeks away; I'd like to get an idea and some input from anyone familiar with the area regarding new restaurants. I will be staying at the Monte Carlo for 1 week. Feel free ( no, not to visit! ) to chime in. :)

And I've said it in every other Las Vegas thread: Lotus of Siam. Shopping center eatery, off the strip, but perhaps one of the best Thai restaurants in the U.S.

I apologize for the repeat of another Las Vegas thread. To be fair, new places come and go in the city quickly and want to make sure things are as up to date while I'm in Vegas. I will take notice of all these suggestions. That's for sure.

No need to apologize, Kyle! Repeats are always welcome for just the reasons you stated. The food-and-drink scene changes quickly in most cities; plus, someone with new information might see the thread the second (or fifth) time around.

Thanks for putting this up, Kyle. I'll actually be in Vegas around the same time (weekend of April 17), so I'll be watching this thread as well.

Someone posted a previous inquiry about Vegas eateries a couple months back, and I suggested they visit "Battista's Hole in the Wall" (http://www.battistaslasvegas.com), located near the Flamingo Hilton....a traditional "Italian joint" that's a throwback to the Rack Pack days (which is about how long it's been around), this is NOT where you go in search of nouvelle cuisine, but to enjoy well-prepared, mainstream Italian fare...you won't see Frank, Dino or Sammy seated at a table, but you can bet their pictures are on the wall as previous guests....

I've been to "Battista's Hole in the Wall". I enjoyed it. Especially the old man playing an accordion.

I lived in Las Vegas for the past several years. If you are looking for something specific (i.e.-close to your hotel, certain type of food, ect.), let me know.

A couple fo my favorites:

Firefly - Good cheap eats.
http://www.fireflylv.com/

Piero's - The best Italian I have ever had.
http://www.pieroscuisine.com/

If, on a whim, you want to purchase a condo on the strip, let me know. I'd love to just have one mortgage payment again.

My brother and I are looking for crab legs near the Monte Carlo on the Strip. Someone mentioned lobster for the Rosewood Grille, but was not sure if this was a good place to try out for crab legs too.

If you never been to a Brazilian Churascaria you might want to check out Texas De Brazil. A true carnivores delight!

Thanks, Neal! My brother and I went to one last year and waddled out after surrendering our forks. It was truly a unique experience. And, the Caipirinha *ahem* were fantastic. Though, I don't remember much after #3. ;)

I have dinned at Rosewood several times. As far as lobster, it as incredible.

Anything else was over priced and ordinary. Yes, I was escorted out of the restaurant on Valentines Day 2 years ago, but I defer to explaining the specifics untill a future date.

Marc P..............Curious as to what you ordered. I'm wondering if my experiences are different than yours? Have you had a non-lobster dish that was great there?

As far as crab legs, buy yourself a liter of beer in a plastic funnel from a street vendor and walk north. It's a little walk from the Monte Carlo, but I can think of no more entertaining walk in the country than the Vegas Strip. Ignore the hookers (or don't, it's your call). Pass all the restaurants with affiliations to Food Network and James Beard chefs. Stop for another beer. End up at the Wynn's buffett. Best crab legs in Vegas.
