First Visit: NABC Bank Street Brewhouse

The menu is limited right now as they get on their feet after opening only last week. I chose the scallops dish, which was described as three diver scallops in a light browned butter sauce (methinks) with broccoli puree, lardons and peas. The broccoli puree wasn’t green, like I expected, but orange. I asked the bartender/server about that and he said the spices added to the puree produced the color. I’m still confused by that, but no matter, it was excellent.

I'm told that there was a bit of server confusion. It was not broccoli puree, but carrot mousse. The intent was early spring peas and carrots. We're discussing the "spice" reference. Thanks for coming over, and I'm happy you enjoyed it. I was busy over at Grant Line and missed the scallops entirely!

Google maps pegged it. Bank Street is one way north, so you have to pay attention to that. You should park in the lot to the north of the NABC building (go past the restaurant and turn in). The lawyer's office to the south has some snitty signs hastily erected in his parking lot saying NO NABC PARKING.

It's also okay to park on the street and in the lot across Bank to the east.

I wrote the signs after the attorney in question abruptly reversed field on prior comments. It's not a big deal at all, and I plan on having him over to lunch in the company of my associate, Guido.

Jay, great review, and it definitely got me excited.

Roger - are you serving liquor yet, or just beer? I get out a few Fridays a month with a group of colleagues for happy hour, and always push to bring the fairly large and free spending group to the locals (i.e., since I organize these, I refuse to go to 4th Street - we tend to end up at Proof, the Seelbach Bar, or, recently, Z's Fusion).

I digress. I know that at least a few in the usual group are not beer drinkers (yes, I know, crazy), and tend to prefer bourbon for the most part. I'd like to put together a trip across the river soon for one of these, but I'm not sure it would go over well until liquor is an option. Thanks.

We are in the process of adding a handful of liquors. This will be proceeding slowly as we research and discuss the choices. We'd like to have quality spirits from non-corporate producers when possible, and we are not going to attempt a "full" bar in the sense of mixers and cocktails. It may take a few more weeks to get this process right. We've never done it before.

Wine is the same story. We'd like to have only Southern Indiana wines, and no one has time to do the research and sourcing, so it's moving slowly. We'll get there. Work is about to resume on the exterior of the building, which means there should be outdoor seating soon when the weather breaks (in addition to opening the doors).

Keep me posted about your plans, and we'll work something out.

Hey Ed, my plan is between 11:30/noon. Between Robs sloth like speed and having to run a couple errands around town I may run late.
