Have fun everyone- I want to come play too. :(
Alas, my family has lassoed me into a dinner of spiral ham and assorted starchy sidedishes.
Please post a play by play and some snaps.

Bats game is probably a no-go for us, we have to make it home to get David & Miles to bed. Sounds like fun though!

I'll have the Tap Room open between 4:30 - 5:00. The official start time is 6:00ish.

Is someone bringing name tags our are we past that?

I'll bring my expert finger whistle and name tags. Will that make me the official tagger? Naming and tagging?

On a 1 to 10 scale I feel these are the most important requirements..

1.Presentation

2.Flavor

3.Uniqueness(is this really a word?)

4.Lets get together and eat some Bacon and then go to a Bat's game!

I'm assuming this is the agreed upon judging criteria...
So 10 points for each category, with a max score of 30 possible?

I'm planning on having enough on hand for about 30 portions.
My 'BLT' requires last minute assembly, so i can't exactly have a big platter out to feed the buffet.

So tonight...
(assuming this is all correct and current...)

The Bacon Brigade:
Dan "Father's Bacon Rules!" Thomas
Bret "Country Club" Donaldson
Marsha "Voodoo Chant" Lynch
Stephen "Mad Mixologist" Dennison
Ethan "Its not even Ironic anymore, is it?" Ray

Judges:
Robin
Deb
Suzi

and 20+ or so spectators.

I'll probably have my girl (made my bread) and roomie along with me, but we're not going to the game.

With all respect to you guys, I think the judges will get together and figure something out. It may not be as fancy a scoring systems as this. It might be a point system, and certainly any judging would involve the sort of criteria mentioned here. But who knows? We could do something as simple as all getting together a back room and saying "That's the one."

Truth be told, I'm with Stephen on this...
I don't think either of us is expecting to win.

I do think we may have to keep a careful eye on Dan and Marsha, to make sure they don't take the gloves off.
Those guys have been talking so much facetious smack that if you didn't know them you might think they meant business.

Way I see it, everyone wins! Especially everyone who gets to eat this great stuff.

My point about scoring is just that I don't think we need to get over-analytical. And as judge (and janitor of this funky online pub), I wouldn't rate presentation above flavor, for instance. First substance, then flash. Got both? That's great! Stuff like that ...

Let's use Iron Chef Japanese scoring!

by Robin Garr » Mon Aug 04, 2008 5:17 pm

Thinking over the discussion with Ethan and Dan, I think it probably does make sense to have a scoring system agreed on in advance. I'm really not down with giving a higher score for presentation than for flavor, though, so here's the plan:

Let's go with the tried, true and tested system used in Iron Chef Japanese!

Taste: 10
Presentation: 5
Originality: 5
MAxIMUM: 20 from each judge, or 60 overall.

What say you, boys and girls? See everyone in Kitchen Stadium, er, Tap Room BBC, in about 45!

My pants are unbuttoned
This swollen gut's a bustin'
I feel just like a glutton
These results are just in:

Sandwiches, salads, cookies
Marriage of food n Beer
Contestants were not rookies
But Steven is the winner!

I had a great time, everyone!!! Thanks to all...

Editted to pronounce: that was improve, babe. I did NOT spend the day rhyming and insert winner's name.

... in that order, but there were NO losers in this fight. Details to follow, scores and points upon request. :)
