Grieving Covid-era closings. Which do you miss most?

by Robin Garr » Thu Oct 06, 2022 10:33 am

Let's talk about Louisville restaurants closed, directly or indirectly, by the pandemic. I count at least 50 locals that we've lost since March 2020 including about 25 in 2021 and 2022.

I miss them all, but I'm particularly grieving Rye and Decca and, earlier, Harvest. Which do you miss the most, and why?

Decca was our favorite high-end place in town. Eiderdown and Maira were also mainstays that we miss, although happily, it looks like Red Bud has significant overlap with Eiderdown’s general vibe. Looking forward to trying it.

I'm hearing rumors that the Ole Group has bought the Harvest building.

I’m just not sure what to make of that. The Martinezes do an amazing job of firing off cool Latin restaurants with broad appeal. There’s nothing wrong with that. But do four Olé eateries in a few Nulu blocks compensate for the loss of Decca, harvest, and Rye?

It's been so very long since I've been out that way I didn't realize they had closed. That's sad. They were really nice people.

I got a little confused about this the last time we talked about Covid- and covid-adjacent closings. Butchertown Grocery on Washington is closed. Butchertown Grocery Bakery on East Main is still open. :)

Thanks for posting that, I thought that the Bakery had also closed.

Bakery is definitely open! Finally had their food a few weeks ago.....I had a danish but they did sandwiches/box lunches for the Jubilee and everyone was just blown away by the quality of the food. I felt like that was really saying something considering we were talking about sandwiches.
